We continued north and eventually were able to find a nice dirt road to ride on.

Gas station lunch today. We were getting close to the Idaho line.

    20170620_140708.jpg

Looking over the maps I found a dirt road that would lead us right to the TAT.

    P6200446.JPG P6200448.JPG

It was a beautiful road. We followed it for several miles and were really enjoying ourselves until we came to a locked gate. :baldy There was no way around it so we turned around. On the way out we passed a pissed off looking rancher in a pickup truck. This was a county road clearly marked on the map. I don't understand how you can just put up a gate and lock it on a public road. We had this problem in Colorado last year to. Oh well. We back tracked and eventually made it to the state line.

These state line pictures are not on the TAT. The locked gate caused us to back track pretty far east and lost us a bunch of time. We would not be able to get back to the TAT today. It was time to start looking for a place to stay. We rode for a couple more hours and found a campground in Downey, ID where we got a cabin for the night.

The next morning we headed west towards the TAT. It was a nice clear morning. We passed a solar farm. Never seen one before.

We finally reunited with TAT near American Falls Idaho where we stopped at this gas station/bakery and filled up the bikes. We went inside to ask about breakfast. The nice kid working inside told us that they didn't normally serve breakfast but offered to make us some eggs anyway. We gladly excepted his offer!

The stretch between American Falls and Arco is looooooooooooooooong! Good thing we filled up with water and gas and had a good breakfast. The riding wasn't really challenging but was just technical enough to keep you constantly focused on the trail which is tiring after a few hours.

You get extra credit for getting that sign in with that breakfast. Great report. Great pictures! Keep 'em coming!

Once we finally reached Arco we fueled the bikes up then went over to Pickle's Place for a late lunch. Good food! After lunch we went across the street to see "The Submarine in the Desert".

During lunch we looked over the maps and noticed that we had some mountain passes coming up. We didn't know if the passes would be open or not so we decided that we would call it quits for today and get an early start on the mountains in the morning. We found a cheap campground just north of Arco with AWESOME views! Moose Crossing RV park. This was one of my favorite places of the trip.
    P6210549.JPG P6210551.JPG

This place was great! Cheap, not crowded, quiet, clean showers, Wi-Fi. The owner even brought us some firewood!

    P6210558.JPG

We sat there relaxing and taking in the view for a few hours then started getting ready for bed. After my shower I walked back over to the fire to warm up and found that my dad's camp chair had blown over and landed in the fire. Bummer!

Wow it's been two years to the date since my last post for this trip. I got a little busy. We sold our house in Ohio and moved to Tampa, FL in 2018. Everything since then has been a blur. Not really sure where to go with the RR at this point. Should I finish it? Maybe I'll just post the rest of the photos.

Are you kidding? Of course you should finish it! We've all been awaiting the next post :lol3

It's a LOT of work, especially the farther away in time...but if you post it, we will read, and like. Post the photos of course, but the best part is what you write.

There was a small river running along the side of the road when we pulled out of the campsite the next morning. It hadn't been raining. This was just snow melt from the surrounding mountains. Not a good sign for us. We made a left and picked up the TAT a few miles down the road.

It took a couple of hours but we finally caught up to the snow melt. It was turning the road into a river. We fought it for a while, but eventually had to turn back. It wasn't bad in these photos but got much worse ahead.

We had to back track all the way back to the highway and go past the campsite again. By now it was lunch time so we stopped in Mackay to eat and look over our options to re route to Sun Valley. The re route ended up being a beautiful ride through the Sawtooth National Forest.

We stopped at the ranger station in Sun Valley hoping to get some maps and maybe get some info on the road closure between Ketchum and Featherville. There was a mudslide here right about the time that the new Idaho tracks were released. I think the road is still closed today. The ranger station was closed so we continued on and soon came to the road closure. We had to turn around and slab it down to Fairfield where we got a room for the night.
