Between Jasper and Mt. Robson
Waterton Lakes National Park
This is Red Rock Canyon Road
i've biked out west tons of times, however nothing beats getting off the chair lift, climbing a few more hours with your gear over your shoulders, one step at a time, then strapping on the board for the ultimate adrenalin rush. No mechanicals...just me and my board to keep it all together. zoom zoom
I have been negligent in not returning to this thread for a while. The 2012 riding season saw a new steed with the KLR being traded out for a KTM 990 Adv. Trips included an early season run through Montana and Wyoming and a late season ride through Idaho and Washington State, including the Olympic Peninsula. In between were rides through southern Alberta and BC and a ride through northern BC and into the southern Yukon. I put a total of just over 18,000 kms on the new bike. I will post a few photos at a time over the next couple of months while I wait for spring and what is shaping up to be another great year of riding!
To start off, in keeping with a few of the other guys, here are some camping photos. Life is good:
Dutch Creek, off the FTR in Southern Alberta
Also Stewart BC
Monkman Provincial Park, in, big surprize, BC
After a few meals of this
You can't beat this!
All the best for 2013! I'll be back....
So, here are some from last year's riding in Western Canada:
From the prairies
To the foothills
To the mountains
Peace River country west of Fort St John
Monkman Provincial Park Campground
Canuseo Falls - Monkman Provincial Park
Salmon River - technically some of the area in the photo is in Alaska
Toe of the Salmon Glacier
Salmon Glacier from above the road
Mount Robson - highest peak in the Canadian Rockies
Great shots Fatallybitten, I love the pic of Robson.
I love the road from Jasper to Mt. Robson. That's a beautiful part of the world.
Nice pics guys I reeeeeeeeealy need to move back out west.
This one is from 1978 on a weekend backpack trip into Berg Lake. It doesn't always look like this, but when it does it is breathtaking!
that thing is a beast.
Thanks everyone for those great pics - now my appetite is growing and growing, but I need to wait until June, when my X-Canada trip starts!
So this weekend I will spend in the snow with the 690 Enduro, just to get my "biking hormone" levels down!
You guys are truley blessed in western Canada!
It's a trip in the bucket list...........
Even with temperatures well above seasonal levels here in Alberta, this time of year is difficult. Yes, you can spend time skiing, snowshoeing, and even hiking this year, but there is no substitute for the two outdoor activities that are my passion, motorcycle travel and sailing. This year, I plan to do a bunch of both. The "big trip" on the KTM this year is a ride to the Yukon, including the Dempster to Inuvik if the weather and road conditions permit. On the sailing front, I plan to do another circumnavigation of Vancouver Island, something I haven't done since 2006. There will also be a number of short trips both by motorcycle and boat and I even plan on combining the two and doing a Vancouver Island back roads motorcycle tour and a sailing trip through Desolation Sound all in a three week period in September. Gunnerbuck's photos of Northern Vancouver Island have whetted my appetite for a moto-camping trip in his neck of the woods.
Keep the photo's coming. More inspiration is always appreciated.
Here is photo on the Powderface Trail, west of Calgary last August

Here are a few pictures of wildlife I saw on my travels in BC and Alberta during 2012.
