My GPS - which absolutely refuses to consider the Parkway as a viable alternative to get anywhere, much less home - insisted that I drop off on NC-80 down toward Marion as the most time-efficient way to get home. Look at that trace - who was I to argue?!?

By and by I found myself swimming amongst the unwashed masses down on the flatlands, but this was OK by me - I had a solid hour of Interstate 40 eastbound to contend with to reach Statesville, and then an hour of Interstate 77 northbound, and then a delicious climb back to the Parkway at Pipers Gap, which put me about five minutes from my garage door. Traffic clicked right along at 75-plus, right in one of the Heritage's several sweet spots, and the NC and VA state troopers all appeared to have the night off. In exchange for deer after dark I got big rigs and texters, but every now and then I actually enjoy getting on the slab and honing my survival skills. I-77 north of Statesville is calm, rural and scenic, and in short order I could see the Blue Ridge looming before me.

370 unforgettable miles on the day - including two new friends! - and I pulled in my driveway at precisely 8:57 p.m., three minutes ahead of schedule.

    Life is good.

The euro-bike dealer in Charlotte sells them, too; along with Morgan, which is even cooler with that big S&S v-twin mounted up front, driving a single rear wheel. But they are even more expensive.

I don't know why it took me so long to find this thread:dunno So many threads, so little time? Anyway, I love that part of the country and you do a great job with your pics and writing so I think I'll be following along from now on.

I was on the BRP on Monday and Tuesday.

I hope you don't mind others posting pictures on your thread FF, but when you have been there it is hard to keep them to yourself.

Anyone else find your eyes never really adjust to the darkness of the tunnel before you exit the tunnel?

Thanks, great to have you on board!

Great pic, thanks for posting! That looks to be towards the southern end of the Parkway, maybe above 5000 feet or so, based on how brilliantly the Catawba Rhododendrons are blooming?

Great pic! Nope, I don't mind at all, it's always fun seeing the world through other people's eyes. :)

A trick I use is just before I enter the tunnel I click open my faceshield just far enough to pull my sunglasses down onto the bridge of my nose, then as I exit the tunnel reach in and push my sunglasses back into place. Since my faceshield is about 3/4 closed during the tunnel transit, my eyes are never unprotected, and I don't suffer temporary "tunnel blindness" because I'm not looking through my sunglasses.

I always fret about not seeing a wayward rock or some such hazard.

Here’s a few from a ride a few weeks ago on our way down to St Augustine. Skyline and the BRP were the highlight of the trip! Beautiful country

Firenailer, where was this taken? I'm assuming a campground with a view?

The first spring we were here I was down by the branch harvesting several VBFR's, ramping them an inch at a time into the back of our pickup. Denise could see me from the office window.

By and by she hiked down our backyard and with a look of grave concern (you men out there are familiar with this look...) asked what she could do to help.

"Grab your cell phone, punch '9' and '1', and then stand by," I said between grunts.

    It's not just a job, it's an adventure. :)

    Hey Brudda!

That shot was at the Little Switzerland Inn right off of the Parkway. They’ve got a seating area with little gas fireplaces where you can sit in Adirondack chairs and watch the sunset and mist settle into the mountains. It’s an awesome spot to dry your pant legs and boots after riding in the rain for the afternoon LOL.

Dangit, I was gonna guess Little Switzerland, but I wasn't 100% sure! That's one of the sweetest views in the Blue Ridge, combined with some of the best riding (the Diamondback/226A comes immediately to mind, and Mount Mitchell, and Roan Mountain, and...) in the Blue Ridge, as well.

Also, the Switzerland Inn has not one, but two bars! (or so I've been told.......) :freaky
