No investigating was necessary. I was merely trying to keep up to date on overland possibilities between Europe and East Africa (the usual route has been cut by the Syrian civil war), and happened to remember the name of the mythical Darien ferry.

Anyone took the ferry?, would like to hear a report as soon as possible, Looks ferry promising. All paperwork done around the two ports for the motorcycles or do you have to go into town?

Watching in pure disbelief, not getting too excited about what everyone wants and knows it's not going to happen.

I've seen it. Saw it floating at anchor in Portobelo when we were there early September. Even briefly talked to Fritz about it and his thoughts then was that it might sail in six weeks... so right about now.

We'll check it out personally this early December and give a full report.

    We're going down that way!

Already booked on the Rat down, but need an alternative to return.

To return I recommend Veronica Mosquera at Lyncargo in Bogota Colombia. They shipped my 650 Dakar to Florida for around $650 with hand holding service. :jkam I got JetBlue back for around $275. May take most of a week in Bogota but don't spend it near the airport.

It is nice to zig zag across the US on side roads after such a trip. :) Do Tail of the Dragon, Sturges, Idaho, roads around Moab Utah etc.
Was funny passing riders huddled under overpasses in a storm, wave or chat then keep riding. :pynd Rain? Silly rain or mud doesn't stop an ADV rider after they conquer SA! :rayof

    Here is Veronica's contact info:
    Veronica Mosquera
    Av Calle 24 #95 A-80 Office 302
    Bogota, D. C. Colombia
    veronicam@lyncargo.com
    Skype: veronikitamo (I think)
    Phone + (57-1) 742-5850

Check the address as it is much further north than my GPS showed in a big black and yellow building marked "Business Center" above the garage entrance. It is past Carrera 95. 4° 40.597'N, 74° 7.749'W on google earth.

I have seen the ferry in Cartagena and met the poor guys who took it!
They say it was a horror trip!
the 24 hours turned to 6 days!!! of floating around and trying to get a permit to go on shore. new promises every day, a toilet that you better do not enter, bad hammocks (no beds) and pasta and meat day in day out, topped by a "psychotic"owner...I would NOT take it, if it ever sails again!

Thumbs up for the Stahlratte, great boat and crew! Fantastic trip!

From the post on Horizon, the "Ferry" service is not quite there yet. We are currently in Antigua Guatemala and plan to ship via air. A bit pricier but quick efficient and reliable according to the research I have done.

    Wake up!
This ferry is a joke! Even if they solve their problems in future, even if they get their permits and a place to harbour, it is still not safe, not reliable, not cheap and no fun!
