Yes there was essentially no traffic. We rode it on Sept 27. It was posted as closed for the 4 days before on line and at the bottom of the south side in a sign. So perfect storm. Sara

We took a different way back to Rizlern and 3 more passes each better than the last.

We arrived home to another special dinner prepared by Sabine Kaese (cheese) Spaetzle! She even put on her dirndl dress for us.

Now for fixing the bike. Michael is a skilled blacksmith and so he had the panniers and racks better than new in short order. For the plastics we took the bike to the nearby mechanic in Germany who was ordering the parts. He is the BMW Dakar mechanic so lucky for us he is near by. Michael is a master of metal and he had the Pannier back to better than new in no time. He also took the racks and top plate to the shop to bend them back into shape. The bike looks new!

While we were waiting for the plastics we took in one of the local chair lifts and an amazing Austrian traditional lunch. Daniel’s schnitzel was as big as his head. He had borrowed Michel’s electric bike to ride back down the mountain and up the valley to the house, while the rest of us walked cross-country down the very steep ski runs.

We packed up to leave Rizlern early and in brisk but clear weather. Today we will meet up with a fellow rider Tragoutt, who has been following our blog and planning his own trip from BA to Alaska.

Tragoutt is also from Austria, but on the other side of the mountain. This is only about 10 km as the crow flies, but takes almost 2 hours to drive around. We planned to meet at the top of the Furkapass at Charly’s kiosk.

We had almost 200 km to go to Brig and it was 5 pm.

[IMG]brig 52 by Sara & Daniel Pedersen, on Flickr

By the time we got to the Passo della Novena it was dark and pouring. The last ten minutes to the summit were pretty scary since it was dark, pouring, 1.5 degrees and on hairpins. It got better on the descent and warmed to 8 degrees. We still had 40 km to go along the valley to Brig. We had booked a hotel or we never would have driven in these dangerous conditions….lesson learned…..again.

Thanks so much! Now his only problem is we are home for winter and the foot is still too big to get in his ski boot! We are back on the road April 8, 2016.

Heading out from Brig it was drizzling, but this did not last long and by Chamonix/Mont Blanc it was sunnyish.

We kept to the small mountain roads to Albertville and then with the pouring rain we opted for the dreaded toll road for the last 100 km. This cost 14 dollars, but saved us over an hour in heavy rain and got us to their house only 30 min later than we had arranged. They welcomed us to their country house and tucked out bikes in the garage for a few days.

Franck had big plans for us for the visit and a lot of it involved eating! He did have to adjust things because of Daniel’s injury.
