Yes and we were lucky we only had to pass 1 truck on the way up and on the way down we did not meet one until the bottom. The other unpaved pass was similar but the switch back part was a lot longer.

It is a coatimundi, which is in the raccoon family. You see them in Mexico and Guatemala too. The ones at Iguazu are pretty vicious according to the signs as too many tourists have been feeding them and they bite.

On the way to laguna and about 10 km from the town we had a white car wave at us and take some pictures with their cell phone. This happens all the time, but today they stopped beside us at a light and handed us stickers from their Laguna Moto Club.

Carlos then asked if we needed anything. Dan said we were looking for a hotel and he said follow us. They drove us thru the historic district to a hotel just off the beach. He knew the owners spoke English. Carlos and Paula were so awesome they sent us the pictures and all their contact info incase we needed help. Carlos also posted a ton of stuff about us on his Brazilian Motorcycle blog!

Leaving the island we headed south on the 101 and then west on the 282. From here we were on pavement, cobbles, and dirt on and off for 180 km to Blumenau.

We were parked out on the street in front of the hotel and a guy walks up to Dan and says in perfect English “ I saw you on Instagram!” Since we don’t have Instagram we did not believe hi, and what are the chances anyway, but he was correct since it was the kite surf shop on Florianopolis who had posted it!

    Hey Gwedo,

Thanks for the follow, without other ride reports before us we would have missed a lot ourselves.

The TT rear shocks have been nothing short of transformative. Truthfully I was very skeptical of the hipe and was considering going the Ohlins route for our bikes as well. Two reasons we went with TT in the end was that we had Ohlins on other bikes in the past and although they are good (far better than stock) we have had seal leakage problems. Second reason was that Alex at Konflict Motosports knows his stuff when it comes to suspension and he thought they would be the best units for what we are doing on them. I would suggest you give him a call for more techincal insight. All we can say for sure is that so far we are very happy.

It is HOT here and humid. It is only pleasant out at 8 am and after dusk. We are so glad we went with light colored suits and helmets for this exact reason. Today while riding it hit 38 plus the humidity. We headed out of Blumenau and north to Morretes in 225 km. This involved a short stint on the 101, but mostly on the secondary roads.

There was also a short ferry ride, which offered quite a nice breeze! The ferry loaded from the side and so it was roll on roll off for sure.

Arriving in the town or Morretes we were very hot and while I was looking for a hotel, Dan was chatting to some locals who also have an 800 GS. We settled for the place on the river, mostly because it was the cheapest and had air con. We were practically melting by now.

It poured rain all night and so we followed the advice of riders Tomas and Claudia who we met in Quito. If it is raining just stay another day and go tomorrow. So we did that and wow is it so much nicer and cooler today at 17 (94% humidity). We decided to do a little canoe float down the now very full river.

Today’s 347 km may have been the most epic entire day of curvy mountain riding EVER. It included what is though to be the most scenic road in Brazil the Rodovia da Graciosa as well as the state park of Petar.

Leaving Merretes on the pavement of the PR 408 we headed 14 km to the other nearby historic town of Antonia, which in on Baia de Parangua.
