Hattah and similar races - breeding a great crop of desert pedallers...mebbe?
^^^By christ he is one helluva good natured, humble and totally down to earth bloke - with a work ethic to match...!
Go on and win the double tomorrow Toby... there is not a man on the planet that deserves it more.
Ha ha ha. That has to go down as the greatest Australian sporting interview of all time.
What a champion.
Tobes didn't make it Bundooma on the 2nd car leg, sounds like a power steering failure stoped him. Fingers crossed that the bike leg goes trouble free.
Yep we’re done... damn. Back on the trailer and back at finish line. The boys did a transmission change last night as well...he got geddes box flown down in the chopper...finished at 3.30am
He had a 5min lead on Walsh at first check. Bring it home Toby
I do rather wonder what sort of a freak he is such that his inbound time is just six seconds different to his outbound.... surely he can't ride with that much discipline?
Bloody awesome effort by TP, pity about the truck.
apparently you cant go any faster than FLAT OUT
more at play than that, he can't have sat at wot start to finish both ways surely?
Seems other riders were getting results minutes apart, makes me wonder if Toby was carrying Nav gear of some type and riding to a script? Anybody get a photo of the dash on his race bike?
My guess is that this would be more distraction than it's worth. I'd go with the theory he is a hugely experienced and superbly disciplined rider and knows what it takes to win and has enough ability to hold that consistent speed all through. In 2016 his variation was 16 seconds, so it ain't a fluke.
And how cool is that interview? That ought to be Media Training 101 for some of the prima donnas in some high profile sports out there.
Maybe you can on a 250. Ol mate riding a CRF250 who came 5th had a time of 02:18:41.5 each way exactly
I'm no racer but my few attempts at competition have highlighted one major strength that I don't have enough of - consistency.
Didn't matter what level of racing the quick guys made it look easy and the guys trying to be quick made it look like hard work.
To set a quick pace on day one and match that pace on the return is a safe and very smart strategy IMO.
Onya TP, KTM will sell another swag of 500's for next year's entrants with a lot of KTM 500's in the field already . . .
Ya full of shit mouse! The only Nav gear is an imprint on his brain of every corner woop and tree...although he did some landscaping today...
Oh and tomorrow is gunna hurt like hell... oh and for Toby too
Before the local exchange went automatic. Just.
Now who said he didn’t have Tatts? Bloody yobbo, sitting in arubbish bin.
He’s our yobbo though.
“ALL WENT REALLY WELL, WE’RE PUMPED – WE GOT OUR 6TH WIN FOR THE FINKE DESERT RACE! THE RACE WAS DEFINITELY HARD ON US, WE HAD A LITTLE BIT OF GET OFF AROUND THE 100KM MARK COMING HOME. OVERALL I’M STOKED, 6 WINS ON THE BIKE FOR KTM AND IT’S AMAZING THAT WE’VE GOT THE RECORD FOR ALL-TIME WINS IN THAT CATEGORY. I CAN’T THANK KTM ENOUGH, THEY ALWAYS PUT IN A MASSIVE EFFORT AND HAVE EVERYTHING READY TO GO FOR US. UNFORTUNATELY, WE DIDN’T GO AS WELL IN THE TRUCK CATEGORY FOR THE ‘IRON MAN’ DOUBLE BLOWING A POWER STEERING PUMP. ALL AND ALL IT WAS GOOD TIMES AND I’M HAPPY EVERYTHING IS ALL WRAPPED UP FOR THE WEEKEND! TIME TO KICK BACK AND RELAX A LITTLE BIT AND CELEBRATE WITH THE TEAM.”
First off before I post on the Finke....
Deepest respect to the family & friends of Damon Stokie and
acqaitanances at BluCru / Team Activ8.
I'm not buying into a s..t fight from above......
But TP is amazing in fact does my head in....
Imagine he drove then road 1/2 the day Sunday ...Into the prevailing Breeze !!
Then Rode back Sunday with the breeze to...... within 6.1 sec?? wtf.
For gods sake he Even choreographed a couple of minutes down time... by crashing ...just to make sure both passes were close!
Nope just one of those strange twists of fate ..that life continually throws up ...often...
And yes he had to beat the best that Oz could currently ( minus Beau Ralston) put up, but the fact we all know is he is world class and a couple of rungs above, anyone here atm.
Tho young Jack Simpson does look to have potential!
Hopefully he got the cobwebs out as he might of wanted ....running at a conservative 80% whilst watching the nav, the gps, the where on earth are you pos'n indicator, elapsed time clock, oz central time clock, secret gps locators on walsh and others Whilst running a cple of spreadsheets to calculate what his ETA is likely to be. God he might of even printed some of those calcs off !! whilst doing a handy 140km + in the outback ! f..k is there no limit to this blokes ability!
.....and that the remaining of 2018 affords him the
work, training, build up he needs to Dakar '19.
PS ....wot??? shurely you mean WFO!
My son was there as his girlfriend's uncle does it (did it in 3.33 down, 4.00 back after a crash) and he was staying at the same caravan park as TP, so first he was very excited to check out his truck
And then the man himself at presentations!
