I see Yellowstone will open from the Montana side June 1st. Some construction from West YS up to Bozeman. The NE corner of the northern loop is closed. This is the only section I have not been through.

On your trip planning out of Hamilton, see my ride report on the Big Hole and the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway. Also, as you probably know, south out of Hamilton on 93 is very nice right now with fresh pavement. Not sure if you have ever traveled through Dubois, ID and then east over to Island Park and on to the West Entrance. The unique part of this route is passing through the Saitn Anthony Sand Dunes. Not spectacular, but unique in ID.

It is a nice time to ride. Getting warmer here with highs near 80. Not as hot as your side of the state.

Looks like we get to start tomorrow for Montana.
I have been to St Anthony and in the park quite a few times, but don't remember dunes. I will check it out. I am thinking of going through Bannack, but don't have much of a second day plan. I will just be happy to be out and spend a little stimulus money. Maybe we will ride to Wisdom for breakfast at the cafe.

I have been across St Joseph pass in early may with 3ft of snow on the road sides, a beautiful ride. Love that road from Anaconda over the top to Wisdom.

If I remember right you had been at one of the Hells Canyon ride dinners at my house in Lewiston.
Some of my best days have been when I went the wrong way so for me there isn't any bad advice.

We ended up meeting AK2ID in Darby, Split off from Countryrebel at Wisdom.
    Toured Bannack.

Headed for West Yellowstone, at times had miles of road with no traffic in the parks. Quite a few buffalo, one bear jam, including a large herd of ding dongs with 200k in photo gear.

Went through Teitons and Jackson Hole and ended up in Idaho Falls, too many miles, but fun.

Nice to meet you yesterday. I hope the wind was not too irritating going across the upper Snake River countryside.

How was Yellowstone? You mentioned traffic was light. Were there busses full of international tourists? Many bikes?

I ask because I am trying to understand the changes from Covid. My current perspective is that there are more weekend regional travelers and fewer long distance travelers. Seems like there is a unusually high number of campers.

    Travel safely.

The cars in the park were from all over the US and very few buses. Quite a few times I stopped on the road and got pictures with the good camera without traffic either way!
I was touring the park at 47 mph on cruise most of the time (45 limit) and got passed 30-40 times.

Sitting down to thai food in Burns at Linda's after a rainy an windy trip at least from Jordan valley. No interstate from Idaho falls. Wish I had a better back tire or another rider and I would have went through Silver City.

Sometimes you need to turn around, go back, and take a picture, no one would believe otherwise. On the highway near Grandview, South of Mountain home.

Somewhere in that vicinity is a life sized version of that cave that was used by hunter gatherers waaaay back. Perhaps one of the Boise Area riders can supply a photo. dd

Did you get hit by the wet weather?

Really strong wind storm and lots of rain yesterday on the east side.

    Hope you had fun.

I got to meet three advriders so the trip was a success.

Friday evening between Jordan Valley and Burns I had a lot of wind and temps over 90. The extreme gusting of the wind and my tall cross section made for tense riding.
