Took my first over night trip on the V-Strom planed a nice loop around southern AZ with Chiricahua National Monument as my anchor point. I did plan the route to hit some roads i had never been on before but as you will see below what i planed and where i ended up are two different things.

This was the route i planed

    The route i actually took

To start off I'd like to talk about the AZ 177 this is in my backyard and i have rode it 100+ times so I didnt stop for any pictures along this road But this a great road rated G1 by Butler and one of my favorite rides in the area. If you are in the area its a must do ride and you can tie it in to the Apache trail in a long loop.

    Ray mine along the 177

Moving on I stopped in Mammoth AZ for breakfast at a nice Mexican restaurant. Good place service was lacking but food was good.

    upload_2019-3-11_19-57-40.png

In Mammoth i turned left on Copper St which turns into Bluebird at Main st this will take you across the San Pedro river to River rd.

    upload_2019-3-11_20-1-4.png

River rd and the rest of the ride from here to Benson AZ are part of the AZBDR.

Lots of water came through here a few weeks ago this sand was about 3' deep at the road

Lucky for me the grader had already cleared it.

You dont really see much about this section of the AZBDR not because it isn't beautiful but because it is made for speed i think. This is a fast road and i had to force myself to stop just for the few pics i got.

Just after the road goes back to blacktop there is a old movie set in the desert unfortunately for me it was closed! A lady I spoke with said its by appointment only now if you want a tour. I still snapped a few pics its called Gammons Gulch i assume you could find a number online for a tour if you wanted.

    Onward to Benson AZ.

    upload_2019-3-11_20-38-31.png

Made a quick stop here for flue. It is at this is the point that my route started to change I decided on heading to Chiricahua National Monument today instead of Sunday as I had planed. Looking for the most interesting route I pulled out my Butler G1 map and found a nice big bike friendly ride over the mountains from Tombstone. The route is called Middlemarch Pass it is a short ride over the hills maybe 20 miles but is a great ride if you are in the area.

After the good off-road section it's a bit of a boring ride over to Chiricahua National Monument but boy does it pay off once you are there!!
This is an amazing place with some of the best rock formations I have ever seen.

I was getting late so i decided to head to Willcox AZ for the night and get a room. Its a quick hour ride to town I checked in to Arizona Sunset inn very nice place clean and newly remodeled.

Asked the hotel owner what food he could recommend in the area and was pointed here.

The next morning after some confusion over what time it was thanks to my phone switching to daylight savings time on me I had a quick bite to eat at the hotel and got packed up and on the road. The plan for today is to make it over Montezuma pass to Parker canyon lake and then back home.

it was a little cold this morning phone said 39 when i left i think my bike was just tring to make me feel better.
    upload_2019-3-11_21-31-37.png

The roads in this area are very strait.
