Well written. I wrote something similar to my MPP, though I'm sure not as well spoken. Talk your riding buddies guys, get them in gear for this.
I appreciate your effort but you need to delete about 90% of that and stick the facts or it'll just get glossed over. Make your point in two, three sentences at the most and follow up with the charts. That'll get their attention. Good luck.
That there should be enough, but amazingly those kinds of facts seem to have no effect on politicians who would enact these laws. It was the same for the .50 cal laws in Kalifornia.
I've got a couple of comments: First, I think it despicable that in a time of global environmental awareness as well as a financial meltdown, that anyone would seek to prevent someone from using what might be their only transportation. Even if not their only, then certainly perhaps their most fuel efficient. Second, we who ride should never hesitate to take our children with us on a motorcycle. If I can ride it, why not them? If their mother can ride, why not them? Children are exposed to a variety of risks throughout childhood from childhood disease to schoolyard accidents. Those of us committed to motorcycling as a way of life should endeavor to present it as such to the public. The best way to do it is to do as so many others have done around the world: use your motorcycle as transportation for all.
You forgot to tell them to ban procreation, as it's the only way to prevent child deaths. Seriously though, we've been putting up with this type of "Nanny State" shit for years and the sheeple just take it. Good on ya for standing up and trying to change this crap.
Hey Drif, where did you get the details on this? I can't seem to find it on the OntGov website. Man this is pissing me off! :huh Just when my boys start to take an interest.
WTF? I don't have kids so this doesn't effect me personally, but I most certainly have very fond memories of being on the back of my father's bike as a child. This is just bullshit. Just fired off an email to my MPP. I let my father know about it and he'll do the same. It's no wonder gov't is so damned ineffective if they waste time on absurd bills.
No offence to our GTA friends, but also remember Ron, a large part of southern Ontario is sparsely populated rural farm communities, we also feel the same way at times. Anywho, Stupid Bill, write you mpp, what about the cma, are there Ont. bike loby groups?? Todd
I exchanged email with someone (who will remain nameless) at the Star earlier today. They knew nothing about it.
Damn I started riding before we had helmet laws. I wonder what other bullshit they can dream up to avoid doing anything worthwhile. What a useless bunch of shitbags they are. I don't think it matters where you are they all seem to be cut from the same cloth.
I just recieved an email from the constituency assistant to Mr Gerretsen, thanking me for my "comments on this important issue" I've told as many of my riding buddies about this as I can... PS: Hi Carl
Well let's look at N.Ont's voting history......... Keep electing socialists, and you'll get socialist nanny-state laws. Between this & the $500 fine for listening to your Mp3 player while riding, with a bit of stunting laws tossed in for good measure; it's pretty obvious that riding a motorcycle in Ontario is going to be financially nonviable in the very near future. Yaaaaay for Canuckistan.
