The Governor of Vermont has ordered that all "non essential" businesses close to limit the spread of Corona Virus, and their owners and staff stay home, so The Nickwackett Garage has closed for the duration. I will be monitoring the answering machine, answering emails, etc, and, of course, spending too much time here. Wish me luck.

The shop phone is 802-483-2460, and my email is budprovin@hotmail.com

Do you sell tshirts via the web? I’d be happy to support your business and could certainly wait on shipping

The Governor of Vermont has apparently never had to troubleshoot or buy parts for an airhead. It's essential.

    Good luck Bud.

Looking forward to this mess being behind us as well.

    Good luck, Bud.

we are in an “essential work” status in Washington but it’s a long list of “essential work”.

I am involved with large college construction projects and most of these have been deemed essential. I received a letter from one GC stating that it was the Project Owner that would determine essential status. I found that interesting.

I represent 2 manufacturers in Pennsylvania and both of them dramatically limited production last week and closed offices.

Yeah interesting, in L.A. automotive maintenance and repair is an essential business (and Pep Boys is open!) as are, of course, marijuana dispensaries.

That’s bad Bud, same program everywhere and business fallout will be hard to measure.
Heard a joke today, seems to help a bit, it goes “ The virus & home isolation is a lot like going to Vegas, you’re loosing a lot of money, cocktails are justifiable any hour, and nobody knows what time it is.”
    Hang in there.

I was surprised my local auto machine shop/engine rebuilder down in the South Bay was open today. It's essential to me, but I'm usually contrary to the general population.

    Hang in there, Bud.

We need to sit this thing out, I'm afraid.

    Bud,

It wouldn't be against the rules to do mail order repair and rebuilding of components like cylinder heads and transmissions. Would it?

I don't really know; the rules are nebulous. I have tons of work in the shop.

For those of you who are curious, you can PM me here.

Given that many MC dealers and shops get a majority of the business in recent yrs from ATV's & UTV's, not PTW's, they can stay open in KY as used on farms, etc..

Get caught up, collect later? Put ATV's on your business model information and all is well except then you'll have "that to deal with".

ATVs are about as welcome here as snowmobiles or 'rona.

Repair shops are essential—people need their transportation—but hopefully they are offering their employees as much flexibility as possible to take precautions. Including staying at home if necessary, and not being fired for doing so.

The most surprising thing I've seen still operating is Staples.

The rules are surely intended to just keep people apart. If a single self employed person shuts the door and carries on working but doesn't let anyone in then that has to be perfectly safe. It's no different from a private individual working in their garage. If the rules don't allow that they are going to cause more economic damage than necessary.

I would leave the "closed" sign up and just do your shop and rebuild work. You would not be "open to the public" per se.

Like Cogswell mentioned, this is what's happening in Spain too. Shops can still carry on as long as they are not open to public.
