Are you promoting the use of ad blockers?
Well, I like the idea of Advrider making a bit of money off me so I would whitelist the site. But I can't do that anymore since the adds are becoming such a mess.
Is the best fix for hijacking popups really to tell all the forum users to get adblockers?
there's a bad network sneaking in we're working on it, have been since last night we're pausing networks now.
I think we got it removed, let me know if anyone still has it load
is this resolved on your end as well? sorry again, these guys snuck through and the software we use that works 99.9% of the time let this one sneak through.
Thanks for all the hard work @Rudy ! Just got it again though
sorry about the issue, we're going to revisit all the ad setups shortly. I can
GAH. okay. i'll stay on it.
put in a million blocks yesterday, any better news?
So far today things do seem better,,
The ads which would take over the entire screen are not present, which is nice.
Largely, I had given up on the mobile version of this site due to them.
thanks for confirming, sorry about that it's been a while since those snuck through.
Haven’t been on much. But so far so good. Thanks!
Looks like the pop up ads which appear over the bottom banner ad have returned.
For what it’s worth none of them are motorcycle related by any stretch.
ok, we know which network it is, they said they fixed it but obviously didn't so we'll just pull them permanently. thanks
It's getting intense. Half to two thirds of the screen is always an ad.
The popups that keep jumping up and covering the bottom third of the screen where you're trying to type are really fun when they suddenly appear under your finger causing you to open them. Also, the battery ad that runs a full 360° banner around the perimeter of the screen is enough to put me off that brand for life.
I've seen a bunch of forums with ads and it's never a big deal, but this place is something else. EVERY ad on here moves, makes noise, plays a video or covers the content. It's really bad.
I'm getting to the point where I'd rather financially support adblocker companies than I would pay ransom to sites that put popups under your fingers while you type.
They sure work well for me, on this site and across the web.
I don't mind paying $49 to support the site. The ad-free experience is another benefit.
I appreciate the time you and others put into keeping this place running, so I see it as my part in that process.
That's not to say that there isn't something less than wonderful going on with ads when the site ends up displayed like @shinyribs just posted. If non-supporters are driven away from the site due to ads, or are driven to use ad blockers to make the site usable, the ads will eventually drag the site down.
thanks for the screenshot we'll get them blocked, it's from a new networks we (were) trying, but behaving badly. Those should only be a 300x250 and 320x50 but clearly much larger on your screen... It's the time of year they're trying to fill demand. we'll make sure they stop breaking the size restrictions.
MzOz and I are bad consumers- while we are able to spend freely, we do not.
Further, we are both partial to the soft sell.
Even if a company offers a product or service we actually do need, if it is repeatedly shoved down our throat we WON'T spend.
Over the years, a few forums I once frequented lost users to invasive ads; there was one ad campaign, Chevrolet IIRC, which would take over the entire screen and generally crashed Firefox.
There was no dialogue with the site's owners.
It's nice that @Rudy (and whomever else is a site owner/operator/founder) is open to discussion and improving the user experience.
