Has anyone created a loop or tracked the forest roads in the Francis Marion forest? I recently went on a ride on part of the HOCAT and it has inspired me to create a good long loop of the forest roads in FM. Here’s what I’ve found on gravelmaps:

This would be a good starting point but any other tracks or info would be appreciated!

Got a 83 mile route laid out. I'm not sure if there are any gates or not on this route. Have not ridden it yet but wanted to share for anyone willing to try it out.

    Shot you a Pm wadamalaw

Just scouted these roads on lunch break. The northern part where I turned around got pretty muddy and less traveled. It was pretty slick even in 4wd. Didn’t want to get stuck so I turned around.

Pumpkinhead will be joining us as well and I’m not talking about the horror movie - though that movie does start off with motorbikes...

I've stitched together the Francis Marion Motor Vehicle Use map into one PDF in case anyone wants a copy. Shoot me a PM. This map shows all of the accessible forest roads.

    Just found your thread.

    I live in MCVL.

I don't have any FMNF tracks laid out I can offer.
I just just ride my 500 from one dirt road to the next.
I have come across several uncharted, uncrossable drainages cut by the NFS recently interrupting the flow of the ride.
I ride by myself and didn't want to get stuck in a drainage having just seen a few rattlers and copperheads on the dirt roads.

If you ride northbound in the AM, make your way north of the Santee for a cheeseburger lunch at Janette's Super Burger. 1473 Indian Hut Rd, Georgetown, SC 29440 (Not open on Sunday). Outstanding burgers served up at a rustic roadside shack. Once north of the Santee you can stitch together dirt roads between 17 and 17A to get to Indian Hut Rd/Janette's.

After your burger, head southeast and east of 17. Ride along the old rice plantations until you get to North Santee branch. Jump on 17 South for a few miles and then you're back in the FM and more dirt roads.

The FM MVU Map is good, but, I use it in conjunction with the SCDNR Wildlife Management Map for the FMNF.

    YW...

Plz Msg me if you want to ride FM dirt roads in this area or head up to Janette's.

    Nice looking 690!

I had a '15 690 but it now lives in NM with a good friend.

I rode it on the IDBDR back in 2015. Here it is near Mt Borah and Horsehead Pass in ID.

I didn't like this setup at all with the Mosko Moto Scout panniers on TouraTech racks. Shortly after this trip, Mosko Moto came out with the Reckless 80 and I've used that ever since on my KTMs. I now ride a 500 EXC for local and long weekend trips. I trailer it out west for BRDs and other adventures.

New guy here on the forums. I saw this thread and remembered I had saved this route from another forum. I have not driven the route so use at your own risk. Checking the MVUM on GaiaGPS it looks like its all legal roads, but not sure about local/seasonal closures. Hope it helps.

Most of those look legal. You could also connect the lower and upper to make a nice loop.
