Last Day of our Meeting - a relaxed tour round the area - not much fotos made.

Lunch stop in El Pont de Suert - chocolate factory in Benabarre, cool day.

So we rode back to the camping - to celebrate our last day with this small tour tougether. Like every evening we enjoyed our meals, talked about bikes, adventures, future plans, world records (friends of Adi) and so much more.
Next day our friends left for their ride back home. We had a last breakfast together - then me and Tina get on for the next tour - a tour we did last year with the GS

So Tina and me added an add. day to repat an tour we did last year - and check a small extension into an nat. Park.

    lets see this.

    our nice gravel road

    beautyful area

same pic - differend view. :-)

    looking down to "Plan"

    high mountains around.

on the way down road was blocked by demonstrators.

as much as i could understand - something like "fair trade" - "milk price" ..
behind a car we could pass them.

short before Plan - the village above - Gistain

the road down - easy to ride

We made a rest at Plan - Coffee and some smal goodies. Then we followed the gravel road at the Rio Chinquetta up to the Refugio de Biados

End of the road - from here only by foot

    Refugio area

look down the direction we came from

on the way back to Plan

    last look to the refugio

    some km more down

After Plan - on the way down to Salinas de Bielsa we again watched some vulture.

here we go -- thanks to nearly 1000 watching this

We left Isabena and went to Castellbo - a small village in the mountains near Andorra. A place we love so much and a place we visit every year since more than 25 years.

    Map day 16:

    profile day 16:

Out of the camping we went south first - to do some extra km. First was to go to Benabarre. (have some Chocolate for the last time this year).

last look to Isabena Valley - Laguarres and it's church.

    closer look to Languarres

After some chocolate in Banabarre we went on to Puente de Montanana and took the C-1311 direct. Tremp.

top of the pass road - look direction lake Panta de St. Antoni (la Pobla de Segur).

going down to Tremp we saw some people watching something. We saw vultures and we stopped to have a look. At the Tremp-dump .. was party time.

the look down to our road - we went down to have a closer look to the vultures.

    one more direction La Pobla

our beast and the road down

and we came a bit closer to the vultures. Was not possible to see them sitting in the dump, but they fly close to us

    they are huge

    and beautyful

and sometimes you see many of them

At Tremp we decided to go more south, watching an area we've been not so often instead takeing the short route to La Seu.

we followed the river La Noguera Pallaresa. (famous more north for rafting)

    the valley of the river

    Baronia de St. Oisme

    behind Baronia

    more south - impressiv

near the end of the valley (near Camarasa)

Some km behind Camarasa the history catched us again. A memorial for the spanish civil war.

    El Merengue

    a small hiil

    Rio Segre

    behind the bike the trenches

    more defence

    bunker

    more info

    and one more

So, at Balaguer we turned torwards La Seu. A fast road to Artesa de Segre and then to Isona. So we are again close to Tremp. At Isona we took the wonderful curvy pass road to Coll de Nagro.

Catalan protest sign at the road to Coll de Nagro. Some more km and we reached Castellbo.
We talked a lot with our friends and had an excellent dinner.

    profile day 17:

un dia de tranquillo. A day in Andorra.

    Waterfall

If you stay away from the main road in Andorra - it is beautyful and you will face much less traffic. We went up to Pal. (End of the off-road tour "Tor - Pal").

at the top of the road -- Frontier Andorrra - Spain

a group of horses -- running free in summertime in the pyrenees.

So after a while we went down to Andorra la vella, ...

the city that never ... stops building something new ;-)

Shopping time for Tina. ... :-)

    than back to ....

    Castellbo

    the bridge over rio Castellbo

this night a guy from Paris with his Yamaha 450 joint us - we talked a lot about the off-road posibillities in this area.

    Day 18 Map:

    profile day 18:

Today we wanted to one of our favourite off-road rides to Andorra - and get a new tire for the back wheel, because our TKC 80 was near the end.

So from Castellbo we get up to

St. Juan l'Ern. In winter times a nordic ski area.

road down to Eremitta St. Magdalena

    river crossing ahead

Tina took the foto and the bridge - me... had fun

    big fun

    realy fun

fun till the end of the little river

    following the river to...

Eremitta St. Magdalena -- where we meet our French friend from last night - and a pair form Belgium with a bike bike. The Belgian decided to join us until Andorra.

    the way we came

    next little river crossing

the way up - direct. Andorra

Up this hill to nearly 2100m alt. and then down to Os de Civis. We went into a bar and had some drinks and talked a lot. Then we sperade and we went ot KTM Andorra to get a new tire. KTM Andorra was great. They checked oil, water and all urgent things. We can recomend KTM Andorra to all travelers passing Andorra and need help. After one hour we left and went back to Castellbo -- were we meet the Belgians again. The day ended with a great dinner and a lot of stories.

    Day 19 Map:

    profile day 19:

The tour today is also one of my most loved tours in the pyrenees. Specialy the part from Llesui to Espot. So let's see the pics.

Start was the same like yesterday -- up to St. Joan -- having a coffee and a pan con tomate - then on an differnd piste to Runes de St. Joan l'Erm vell.

    Tina checks the info desk

and like always - plays with the water

    closer look

    close 2

    easy to ride

some more km easy off-road - then we hit the road down to Sort. At Rialp we get up again to

    Llesui

in front of us - 30 km gravel to Espot (first pass left near that bush)

when you reach the top from Llesui you can cross to the next valley - or go on to Espot

this is near the crossing to the other valley - to go down to Espui. We stay on that route (to the shade on the right side)

shepards at work (2000 m alt)

    count the black ones

    impressive nature

    high mountain sheeps

    relaxed cows

    well climbing ones

shepards - and the road we came

Pic le Orri - another target from St. Joan.

    Tina looking at marmots

    and sheeps (and vultures)

    pasing a small waterfall

Still some km to go (alt 2170 m)

    with a view

    looking back

and surprise -- at the Esport ski area - rain was running in -- so we needed to go down fast to escape the thunderstorm.

sometimes a bit too quick for Tina -- but the rain didn't catch us much. only 500 m we get wet a bit. --- But the old rule "weather could change quick in high alpine area" is still true.

50 km later - at Col de Canto - weather was good as usual. And at a small Restaurant we found this. ...

El Jardi de Roques -- the garden of rocks -- showing the history of the earth.

One more exellent dinner -- and the last night in Spain -- Tomorrow we start to go home.

    to be continued.

It was 4 p.m. -- one option was to look for a hotel in this area - we checked the weather and saw huge rain in front of us - and more rain the next day. So we decided to go on and reach home if possible.

    @ lake Konstanz

    Hi all and FYYFF,

round 10 years after our tour to Kerkira we decided to visit Greece again. We went down via Austria and Italy and took the ferry from Ancona to Igoumentisa. We spend some time on the main land and then took the way back via North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria.

First the map of the complete tour.

We packed our KTM in the mornig and had good weather, but 15 min before we wanted to start, it started to rain. -- Heavy rain -- so we took our rainclothes, jumped in and started.

    Start pic - as always

At Innsbruck rain was gone, so we jumped out of this hated rainclothes. We climbed Brenner-passroad and get down to Sterzing. Tempratur get up to 25°C.
One hour later we reached Lago di Garda and it started to be hot.

    Dashboard KTM -- 39°C -- 266 km to go

    Cooling and drinking, drinking, drinking

At Faenza we left the "Autostrada" -- a huge fire in a factory produced a lot of smoke

Late afternoon we arrived at Badia della Valle to visit our friends here.

the famous bar (very good pannini)

We went on - took some small roads to reach Marradi.

in the afternoon we reached Ancona and prepared to enter the ferry.

the ferry was late, so we had to wait a longer time. And again it was very hot.
While waiting with other bikers we became friends with Orestis - a greek biker. We spent a nice time on the ferry with him. His cabin even was close to ours. He invided us to visit him at his home. (but we didn't reached his place - we hope we make it next time).

    our cabine.
The mad thing was, that Tina wasn't allowed to ride on the bike with me inside the ferry, so she had to walk. Took us nearly an hour to find us again on the boat. (I didn't know our cabin nr., because she had the paperwork).

    the first we saw

so we took the small road which leads us to all the fantastic monastarys

    close to one

    very impressive

    so much nice views

    impressive rocks

    Kalambaka in the valley

    even very nice

So - it was too hot to walk around in bike gear, and even we faced tons of tourists - so after the nice round on the road, we started to go back to Ionnanina.

At Metsovo we took a very smal road into the mountains - this part was very beautyful.

comming up here from the highway

Again hot, a lot of cold drinks and fantasitc food at night.

    So - enough for today....

let's go on with storytelling -- and pics. :-)

Day 6: going south to Patras

After another fantastic breakfast in our Hotel in Ionnanina we decided to go south, but first go north for some 50 km to have a small look to the famous Vikos gorge. (Wikipedia).
We rode along the lake to leave the city.

    lake at end of town.

after round 40 nice twisty km we reached Vikos.

and it was hot again - so we got ...

cold drinks (this works realy great in total Greece).

from here you can go on a 10 km walk into the Gorge. Nothing for us with all the bike gear and round 25°C before noon.
So we went on to go south.

we followed a very nice valley for quite a long time direction Arta

    a closer look.

After a short discussion we decided not to go to Lefkada (all Hotels have been booked or have been to expensive for us). So we followed the road through Arta and Menidion.

    Poseidon 435 passed us

we reached Amfilochia - very windy

    shaking boats

me - a rare pic ;-) (german beach outfit).

some km later - another nice valley in front of us

we passed a nice church - full flagged

    close to Patras

    coast line

fantastic bridge to reach Patras (Charilaos Trikoupis Bridge) -- (Wikipedia)

We got a Hotel near the harbour and walked a while arround. Had some dinner and met a group of bikers from Israel in our Hotel. Was cool - Crew Chief of Hotel had a Suzuki, BMW from Israel, A 1290 S KTM from Italy and our one. -- a cool bike meeting. :-)

    next highlight

    nice church

    and nice forest

Next stop at Kyllini -- (yes cold drinks, and ice cream).

Some km later we checked in at a Hotel in Katakolo. We had a nice walk along the beach, some fantastic Souvlaki and a good Restaurant at the beach with good sea-food.

Weiter geht's :-) (let's go on) - still a lot to show. So after 7 days we are very south in Greece. It was very hot all the days. (the hole tour haven't seen a day below 30°C - two times rain, but not too much).

Day 8: - to Kalamata, the most south point - Peloponnese
    Day 8 - Map

    Profile day 8:

We left our Hotel - went into the City for an ATM. Found one near two bike-cops. Had a nice chat about their Suzuki Police bikes and german BMW Police bikes. (Suzuki police bikes are good - not much pain at the garage, easy to maintain/ service).

Then we followed the coast nearly the hole day.

here we nearly crashed in some deep sandholes.

Tina realy hates this. A nice beach, and bike-clothes.

    Wow :-)

    next beach, very crowded

on the way back to the highway - a look to the bay

    Here we go

Day 14 -- leaving Greece, to Tirana

    Profile day 14
    [IMG]

horses at the top of the passroad

an army post at the mountain - no photos allowed.

down on the other side of the hill we found (and resucued) this little friend

as you might know we have turtles at home, so we had to take care of him. The first greek turtle we saw alive (3 dead ones before near the road).

Florina, last bigger town in Greece

    at a shop in Florina

So - after some more km we left Greece and entered ...

Republic of north Macedonia (actual name of the country) -- formerly known as "Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia"

we passed Bitola and went on to lake Ohrid.

and whop -- some km later we finished our very short Macedonian visit and poped into ...

    Albania (border)

    somebody had fun with painting

    Elbasan

some km later we droped into Tirana - a beautyful city.

10 years before Tina collapsed close to here at 40°C, and we booked into Rogner. So we did this year, without a collaps (had only 38°C :-) )

we had a walk into the city late afternoon

    some art

enjoying the night, found a good restaurant, had fun

still in Albania and it was ... -- yes.

Most bike travelers go to Theth from here, or to Montenegro. We wanted to explore a differend route, we didn't take 10 years ago. So we took the road to Kelmend to reach Plav in Montenegro. (and it was fantastic).

so this day was like -- oh shit -- let's change the plan. :-)
We wanted to go to Tara valley and Dumitor national park. But after some 30 km we faced havy thunderstorms in the montains. So we decided to turn arround and go direct. Podgorica and see how the weather will be at the last chance to turn up.
At the last possible point we still saw heavy rain so we went down to Podgorica.

The Plitvice lakes were totally crowded with tourists. So we moved on to Ogulin. A nice small town we visited 10 years ago.
The nice curvy road showed us some rain.

but we didn't get wet. Intressting fog after the rain.

At Ogulin we spent the night in a Hotel near a Supermarket - quite funny. (if you don't like the food in the hotel, you can go shopping next door).

Next Insatll -- From Germany to .... FINLAND
:-) Finnland, a country i like so much since i spent 6 mounths in winter 1999/ 2000 as exchange student in Kuopio.
Our plan for 2020 was going to south Spain ... but thanks to covid .. we had to change plans. Spain was still a hotspot, so i asked Tina what about to go Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finnland.
Close to our free time, Tina became concerns about the route. What if on of the country closes?
So we decided to take a ferry from Germany to Finnland - only one border to cross. And so we did. Also new - for the first time - we packed out bike on a trailer, so we had both - comfort for Tina, and a bike for "Adventure". :-)
In our other thread "Bavaria and sourroundings" we posted some pics just in time. You can watch them here.

So let's beginn the story of our 3 week tour now.
    Like always....

    Map of day 1:

    profile:

So we crossed nearly hole germany on day 1 - means a 740 km highway ride. And going down from round 700m alt to 100m alt close to the baltic sea in north germany. Day one ended near Pritzwalk in a nice hotel.
    So let's have some pics.

At every holiday-ride i do a "start" pic. So this time a differend one - not only the packed bike, this time car, trailer and bike. :-)

bike is fixed - we changed the way of fixation during the next days

one of the stops during the day - Covid-rules -- (do you know the song from the rolling stones - i can get no - desinfection....)

at a pit-stop in former east-germany -- an exhibition of former east-german technics.

Vicco von Bülow (Loriot) - a great german comedian with pug (Info) at our Hotel.
So we got a great dinner and a very good breakfast here the next day.

    Map day 2:

    profile day 2:

Flat land in north germany. Our ferry leaves in night at 02:00 - so we had a lot of time to view the east-german coast at the baltic sea.

some km more north - we reached the baltic sea. Here on the way to the island Pelworm behind Wismar.

Timmendorfer Strand - not the "well known" near Lübeck - the not so well known at Island Pellworm. (was there after the border was fallen - one of my very first tours with Tina)

Finland is huge - some also say it doesn't exist - like the town Bielefeld in Germany. :-)

In Kemi we took a look at the "Snow-Castle" (an ice hotel) -- more info here. SnowCastle365 is the all year version - in winter they build a Castle from snow
