Yep...I would say so.
Lake Superior in Ontario Cananda...
Crossing back into the USA at Sault Ste Marie ...
On the way home I got off in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and went down to the Soo Locks to watch the big lake ships go thru the locks. This was a great detour plus there is a lot of good food places in town. I would suggest stopping here!!!
Here's some info on the ship going thru the lock... "The Spruceglen"
http://duluthshippingnews.com/ship0476/ ... this is a very interesting read!!!
The Mackinac Bridge heading South...
Here it is looking North from the City of Mackinac, Michigan...
The Old Mackinac Lighthouse in Mackinac City (this is also a nice stop along the way )...
Can't wait till spring to get on the road again!!
I plan on spending some more time up in that area...maybe head over to Thunder Bay.
This past summer I did some riding on the US side of Lake Superior. Great area to ride also.
Nice report. Yeah the lk Superior area is wonderful regardless of what side you're on.
I have made the big loop around Superior.. it is fantastic....would do it again too.. awesome trip report.. thx for posting..
My bride & I did the full Lake Superior loop from K’zoo last September with 2 fiends...er....friends. This is Grand Marias, MI.
And yeah....I tow our mountain bikes. Total geek for 2-wheeled conveyances.
What a great ride! Thanks for sharing the photos!
Fantastic pics. Glad you had a great ride.
You should definitely go around the whole lake. Upper Michigan and Wisconsin are fantastic. The ride from Duluth to Thunder Bay is amazing. Lots of great roads and sights. Complete the ride clockwise as well....closer to the lake.
Thanks for the advise...I plan on doing it some day. I just retired two weeks ago so maybe I'll have more time to do more than just one big trip a year. In June I'm riding down to Tennessee to the Smoky Mountains for a week or so. August seems like a good time to go up North to me...We'll just have to see.
What do you know about the historic fort in Thunder Bay? It looks interesting. Is it worth the stop?
Nice ride! Nice pix! Thanks.
Definitely worth the stop. You can also camp there for the night too. http://fwhp.ca/visit-us
I would also suggest checking out Kakabeka Falls, which is a bit west of Thunder Bay, Mount McKay in Thunder Bay gives quite the view of the city and Ouimet Canyon, which is east of Thunder Bay.
Do not miss this, it is a great place to camp too....
Visit a few of the lakes that are just east of Wawa... glorious!
Also maybe take a detour on Minnesota Hwy 1 up to Ely... you will not find a better moto road.. :)
When you go back, this GPS file might be useful to you as it has a lot of points of interests marked in it. Hope you find it helpful in your planning. Like others have said, you'll really enjoy circling the rest of the lake.
Thanks for the info!!!
Great pics and a great ride! I may have run into you this fall at the intersection of 250/Bogart...I was on my V-Strom as well.
