Last week the weather was abnormally warm and I got a lot of pleasant riding. So I have some places to share.

Mozhaysk, an old town about 100 km from Moscow

Borodino, the place of the deadliest battle in the Napoleonic wars in 1812. This arrogant Frenchman lost a big part of his army here. And despite the fact Bonaparte occupied Moscow he was forced to retreat from Russia.

It's interesting that battles during the WWII were also held here. And the arrogant German lost some of his troops here too.
You can see concrete fortifications of that time

It's famous for tsar Ivan the Terrible rezidence, from which he ruled Russia for 17 years, having left Moscow. He began his governance as a wise reformer and finished with huge repressions and suspicion for everyone. It was cruel time. And the spirit of that age is still here.

Don't touch the trone. It might causes a paranoidal obsession with power.

As always, we enjoy the pics from your part of the world. As an aside, what is or was the purpose of that tower in the above photo?

It's a water tower that pumped the water for steam locomotives till the middle 20th century. And in the background is the railway station.
