Steve and I are both old school and don't use GPS when we ride. We use the old fashioned method of going exploring and learning roads that way.

it used to be deep ruts, big rocks. Cool place to hang out in my early 20s i rode the /5 to the top it was a job, don't think i could do it now

never imagined being able to drive a minivan up there back then

back then the quartz gravel was golf ball size and when you walked on it at night it would spark

my virginitys up there some where :lol3

On Friday it was time to head home. I pretty much just reversed the route I used to get there. The route has some nice riding as well as some boring four lane towards the end.

I took a light detour down the paved goat trail.

    Overlook near Fort Mountain.

I've take pics at this spot before but took one again just to document that I rode Hog Jowl Rd,

Debbi and I discovered this place a couple of month's ago and really liked it so I made it my lunch stop.

This was just down the road.

I made it home early afternoon. My rear tire is about worn out and chain is getting kinked so I'll need to do some maintenance on the Versys soon. The rear tire might be good for one more ride.

BTW, the Michelin road 4 I put on the front before this trip really felt good. Very neutral steering and never had any issues with grip.

I have camped up there but I don’t think I did that trip,

I’m wondering why I only have one saddle bag:hmmmmm

I do still have that leather jacket, but I must have rode in the rain a lot because it seems to have shrunk

Apparently I’m on the way to somewhere not on the back

    Because there’s beers not opened

An older me would have hid that stuff in the woods & picked it up on the way down

The younger me not so much:loco

Edit: I must have wore that helmet in the rain alot also

    Cause it’s to small too:-)

Like you, in my younger days I rode/pushed/dragged an old airhead up that road. It was never quite the same after that. Just this spring I rode a newer GSA up the mountain....I gott'a say that at my current age, I'd much rather ride up that steep, but smooth asphalt. The view is still among the best in Georgia.

I'd love to say YES, however I'd be fibbin'. I started up the damn thing on a '66 305 Scrambler with a worn out rear sprocket and kinky and dry chain. Bout half way up it puked some teeth off the sprocket and left me and my girlfriend coasting, pushing, dragging, and cussing back down to her dormitory. That relationship didn't end well.......for the bike or the girl.

It's still there, but is now limited to hikers and horses; nothing with wheels is allowed. Parts of it are now even PAVED! The Fun Police have closed many older trails, and roads throughout North Ga. We're lucky we still have access to as many wonderful old trails and Forrest Service roads as we do.

Thanks. I figured it would be gated off or something. If it was a really great ride I would most likely have heard of it.
