I like the Trail Cub, but I’d be afraid of getting bored with it after the honeymoon. I watched a video of a guy with the new Grom. He put knobs on it and it did great off road. You could probably buy a new Grom and two sets of wheels depending on the type of riding you wanted to do. I haven’t made up my mind if I like the looks of the new Grom yet but it’s growing on me.

Between the improved ergos and the fifth gear, I may give the new groms another look. I’ve had a 2014, and a 2018. I simply couldn’t get the 2018 ergos right. I had the 2014 where I wanted it, but it was totaled. I had considered a monkey as well, it there is still the problem of the gearing, which in the mountains, was either redline in third, or losing rpms in fourth. I hope the fifth gear will come closer to resolving that.

I've never been particularly interest in small bores before but seeing these posts, and having in-laws who are asking for advice for a bike for their 14 yo son, has caused me to do a little searching. I am really impressed by what I'm seeing with the SSR and Benelli bikes. Particularly the SSR Buccaneer and the Benelli Leoncino.

Well sir, I own both an SSR Buccaneer and a Benelli Leoncino. I've also ridden the Benelli TNT300, which is the older model of the new Benelli 302S. So if you have any questions, I can probably answer them.

    Charles.

There’s a 2020 TNT on MarketPlace right now for $2500 with only 300 miles. It’s in Bell Buckle, TN.

It's more than just a 5 speed. They put cartridge oil filter in instead of the heavy oil spinner which allows quicker revving. Plus the updated cam chain tensioner and guides(has the long nylon guides instead of roller wheels). Slightly bigger fuel tank. Better gauge cluster.

Patiently waiting for the updated Monkey to go with the current gen in the stable.

For a current Monkey just lower the gearing so 4th is more usable.

Honda has parts for the new Grom to give it the off road/scrambler look.

Personally, if they come out with this kit and that actually is a bigger tank, definite "sign me up" territory.

Still just a 150 but I think the look is more fitting of the way you ride Win.

Now that would have been a blast on the little track they had set up at Small Bore:ricky:ricky:ricky

Come to think of it, it would be fun on the big track at Barber as well!

All these thoughts of a new bike are being put on the back burner as I prepare for my first long ride of the season. I will be riding my Versys to Blue Ridge, GA where I will meet up with @Raptorman and @2372ighost and we will head to Little Switzerland for a few days of riding in NC and TN. Other than a few phone pics, my ride report will wait until I get back.

There's a track not to far from me that Josh Herrin owns. It's called the Herrin Compound, and he hosts small bore races and track days. Pretty cool deal.

Now that sounds like fun. If I lived near there I'd be real tempted to get something suitable for riding on that track.

There is another player in the small bore market that blows away the Grom, Z125, TnT135, etc and still meets the definition of Small Bore as per the Barber event. The KTM 200 Duke is 199.5cc and has a claimed 26 HP. At $3999 it isn't that much more than a Grom and certainly way less than a heavily modded Grom.

With 17" wheels and a 309 pound dry weight its going to feel more like a full size bike.

Give me a dual sport with that motor, if it is good, keep it on the small side and sign me up. Like a Beta 125rr-s.

I thought that looked like TWOS, but I had read that you were headed to LilSwtzlnd, so I couldn't be sure.
