For those that are full time, as in no home, what do you do for a legal address? I know that some use a service in South Dakota, TX, or FL, or a family/friend addy, but is anyone doing anything more creative? In 2 years I will be retired and will hit the road, first on a bike for some version of a world tour, then probably full-timing it in an RV.

Although it may be a while before the pics end up on the cover. I was looking at it and see that the trip I took in 2005 to Turkey, which included Serbia, is on the currently displayed cover (the 2015 cover). I actually don't know when this pic was sent in, so it might have been one of the riders just recently sending it.

You are going to need two supplemental vehicles anyway, what will the other if one has taken the only bike? Like MANY others have said, a couple of 250 dual sports. Honda CRF250, Yamaha XT250, Yamaha TW 200 something like that. Me and the Mrs had a pair of TW 200's and had a blast. We sold and bought 2 DR650 for a longer trip, but I wish I still had the TW's. They are a mountain goat off road, extreme fun on black top twisties....the only downside is freeway speed, which ought not affect you.
I'd like to do this but am worried about blocking the air flow to the radiator.
Have you seen the size of the radiator in a diesel truck? It would take something solid like a Gold Wing to block it. Small dirt bikes flow air pretty well.

This year I moved and had to renew drivers license in GA. The website said bring two utility bills with valid address. I did, but the DMV would not accept a PO Box as an address. They might accept a lease or real estate closing papers. I was able to use a permit but only with a different person. Some states once allowed illegals to get drivers license using invalid addresses. I guess this is a reaction. I'm not sure about other states. Years ago, I moved to Tennessee and registered to vote by mail, I then used the voters registration card to get a drivers license and then when I voted, I presented the DL as identification. I'm not certain this would work today. By the way the election commission suggested this.
When I'm finally retired in a couple of years, I'm thinking about using a family member's address for billing purposes while I'm on the road and riding for a year or two. Then later I get a truck and a 5th-wheel or a bumper-hitch camper/toyhauler that can garage my sled and a future adventure-type bike. By that time, I'd want to set up base-camp at RV parks for longer-term stays (one month at a time?) and explore the neighboring states/roads at a slower pace and have someplace to "come home to" every day or by the end of the week or so. When those states are explored out, I'd move over to another camp-site and start all over again. I hope to make new and long-lasting, meaningful friends along the way. Well...that's the thought behind the dream ride for the rest of my life.
start a thread when you start. I plan on doing the same thing but my retirement is much farther off. And I'm thinking of checking out some other continent for a year or two and coming home to the U.S. And doing the same plan as you. Sounds like a dream come true, have a great time
@Rippin209...I'll do my best...cameras, pics, videos I hope. Barring any future fubars, I should have the time and funds to roll out with only myself to be concerned about. The realities of age, health, and physical abilities will also dictate just how much and what I'll be able to do before I put the kickstand down for my very last time, but I truly hope to kick it up countless of times to roll out before that time comes. I really want to make this count...a docu-memory (new word I think I may have just made up ) so to speak...so I can review it with family and friends while I relive it from my rocker and say, "Yeah...I really did that...good times...very good times." I...can...hardly...wait.
The Wife and I have discussed the RV vs 5th Wheel for retirement and National Park tour for nearly a year now. We are 1-4 years from retirement, just don't know when to pull the trigger and go. We've heard/read so much about National Parks having limits on length for RV's that we are not sure what to do at this point.
However, when browsing 5th wheels/toy haulers we observed that the toy haulers gave up a lot of space for the garage area and that had a tremendous impact on interior layout that put us off. When discussing this with a rare salesman that wanted to know how we would use it, he suggested Lifestyle RV 5th wheel as they were built better than the others in his opinion and could handle the weight of a platform and motorcycle at the rear without upsetting tongue weight at the hitch pin terribly. upon further research the wife found Alpha Gold on the Lifestyle RV site and they had this pop out motorcycle garage! This seems like the ideal rig to us butt again, it's rather long and may be an issue with small camp sites.

It ain't cheap either. Only time will tell if we will pull the trigger on this AND a big @$$ diesel to pull it with. If the side hauler can pull that bagger in, it won't have any problem with the Katoom!
Yes I've seen the radiator. I still wouldn't want to block it with anything is Southern California 100F + at times

" Thats what we came to as full timers , living space is small enough, we sold the house one year prior to retirement, got rid of all the stuff, no storage.... four years now, not done yet...yes its worth it!!!!
It gets that hot where I live at times too, but with the added joy of 90+ humidity. Anyway, I know it works, but we can agree to disagree.
A local fabricator can add some strength to the sub frame of a 5th wheel. There are many options out there for receiver lifts/hoists and vertically retracting lifts; drive on, secure and hit the hydraulics. I had a friend that hauled a FJR monster on the back. There are even fiberglass shells that hinge and fold away to protect the bike or make one. Go online and search, so many options but I agree, a patio hauler requires you to give up a lot of real living space and seems to me they add costs to patio or toy hauler versus deducting the price. Keep us posted.
