The explorer has some mapping ability on the screen, though it is rudimentary at best and not worth it as long as you are looking primarily for moto use.

I have had the Delorme (original) InReach SE for 3 years. No issues. Works well, easy to use. I never use the Earthmate app/map that comes with, primarily for sharing/communicating your locations. I linked mine to Spotwalla and have always used that.

Big plus for me is long battery life. I can run 10 days of touring on one charge. But I also generally use it to track and not communicate (I leave that feature as emergency use or no cell service). I'd wager that that frequent texting might deplete the battery faster.

    I'd re-buy in a second if I lost mine.

I've been using an inReach for years and just bought my son the Explorer+ for Xmas and am waiting for him to get up so we can play with it. He's not a moto rider but a hunter/hiker. The Delorme (now Garmin) maps are great. However, the process of getting a route (or track) into it is a bit clunky but can be done. And sadly, no microSD card slot to add other maps - I wanted to be able to add the OnX maps but he'll have to use his cell phone for that. Still, it's an amazing bundle of technology in a small package

Agree with Patch's assessment. I have mine linked to my cell. It makes txting much easier when I do use that feature.
