I guess when having it hardwired from a cigarette lighter usb, then you're not using the waterproof case?? Are you using the ultra cage part # 010-12389-12 to mount it?

I was thinking of drilling a hole into the waterproof case, but there's no room to do so as the "door clamp" is right there....

Could you maybe post a photo of the wiring into the case, if you're using the waterproof case with external power?

    Thanks

The issue is that you guys have two different models of cameras. The Elite doesn't have an external case as does the Ultra.

So your Elite solution is of no use to the other guy.

The old one is the best one, imho, when you're speaking of Virb cameras. I have no time for the new model.

But the one guy who complained about battery life was speaking of his Ultra.

I hope this isn't annoying anyone but I made a new video from my time lapse of the Five Islands Tides, and slowed the frame rate so you now see one frame/minute per second.

It's three minutes long, but gives a better idea of what is going on in the tide changes.

    Hope you enjoy it.

Does the Ultra not have an external surface contact battery cable? The beta unit had one.

Yip.... And I contacted Garmin to ask about a waterproof case with built in charger, and was told the camera would get too hot charging inside a waterproof case.

Never had an action camera and just ordered a Virb Elite Refurb today. I'll mostly be traveling on bike without a laptop, just iPhone and will have wifi. So now that I've got this thing coming, I need to get a data card ordered. I understand MicroSD Class 10 or better and no larger than 64GB is what I need. Do most of you just use one SD card or multiples?

I use 128gb Samsung as cards and it works fine.

Really easy to fill it when constantly recording. I swap cards and also have spare batteries.

I also have a long USB power cable Not data cable for continuous power if needed. Especially needed if using wifi to remote control the video and or take pics.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear 128gb will work. I am planing on using the power cord from my Powerlet outlet on the RT. I'm going to try to get by on one battery for know until I'm sure it is going to work for me.

    Any input on aftermarket batteries?

I got the original batteries and even after 3 years they are still lasting.

Do check your USB cable. some when plugged in will trigger the VIRB into data transfer mode. And not allow you to record while charging via a power outlet.

i just switched from gopro to the virb. i like it a lot better and with the app built into garmin gps devices and a simple remote it makes it much more functional to me than a gopro cam.

I am using a Zumo 395 which has the Virb app, hopefully Garmin will continue to support the Virb Elite.
