40-ish consistently-- consistently enough, in fact, that I quit checking it quite a while back. 39 to 41 mpg with 75-90 mph the vast majority of the time.

1985 R80 G/S with Motosport Bags and R100 GS tank: 50 hp 39-44 mpg and 200 miles to reserve.

2000 Triumph Sprint RS: 108hp 36-46 mpg and 200 miles to low fuel warning (low mileage is from track days.

2004 1150 GS with Jesse's: 80 hp 39-45 mpg and 200 miles to low fuel warning. Low mileage was from hard 2 up riding loaded down with gear.

It seems no matter which bike I ride or how much hp it has, I still get the same mileage range. If I got 200 miles on the trip meter, I had better find a gas station. Keeps things simple for me.

Actually, one US gallon equals 3.79 liters. However, one imperial (or British) gallon equals 4.55 litres :)

The difference comes from the fact that a US fluid ounce is very slightly different from an imperial fluid ounce and in the imperial system there are 20 fluid ounces to the pint, rather than 16. I have a spreadsheet for anyone who wants to convert mpg (US) to mpg (UK and to l/100km - Send me a PM if you want a copy.

Did an IBA SS1000 ride Sunday with a friend on a 2005 1000 V-Strom and I was riding a 2005 GS12. Total milage was 1050 with an average speed between 75 & 80. The GS got 41.39 mpg and The V-Strom got 37.12 mpg.

Well enough said for the 50mpg claim...
I think the GS will get close to 50mpg with slower speeds, but we were keeping close to 80mph most all of the time. The best I can remember getting last year was 46mpg.
