Early 80s, I think.
Or the thief *did* know both that the earlier caps don't fit and that the 2020s are on backorder--which is precisely why he stole yours: because he needed a replacement cap for his own 2020 Sportster. Unfortunately, doesn't help your situation one bit, but that strikes me as a plausible, if not likely, scenario and may serve as a caution/warning to other 2020 Sporty owners to keep a protective eye on that particular piece of easily removed "unobtanium" on their own bikes, at least in the short term.
If Harley doesn’t do something soon perhaps a widespread problem of gascaps missing off new bikes on the showrooms will force them to provide caps hahaha I’m sure I’m not the only one in need of a cap.
Does anybody have a recommendation for highway pegs. Looking at all of the stuff attached to the fork legs, it is either going to be a large undertaking (not to mention that they are a strange diameter) or it would have to be the mustache kind with a bar underneath.
I do not want crash bars, so that's not an option.
does “bung king” make anything for the sportster?
Check the Harley catalog. I'm sure they have something.
Bung King has a crash bar that I've been looking at buying for myself, but that isn't what they were looking for. Maybe something like these from DK?
If anyone is going through Pelham Alabama heart of Dixie Harley puller a cap off a 2020 for me and I didn’t even buy the bike from them. Good group of people!
Man, that's awesome. I love hearing that customer service isn't totally dead!
I'd have bought an overpriced T-Shirt or something off of them!
Gave the tech a case of beer for his troubles. Didn’t have to do that at all for me but he did. Made a loyal customer out of me that’s for sure!
That's great! I'll look them up on facebook and give them a thumbs up for helping a rider in need.
Any aftermarket solutions out for the 2020 yet? Do you know what the thread size is? Maybe you could have a nice custom cap built.
Or to sell it on Ebay.
I called rsd, Arlen ness, performance machine and kyuriacan and none of them make a cap or said they could make one. I just got my new cap so all is right with my bike now
Huh, why didn't I think of that ? Great idea. I'll probably look used to see if I can find a set of forward take offs. It used to be mids that you could find. The hipsters are now putting mids and rears on their bobbers and cafe racers.
Also, just FYI, I did think of the Harley catalog, but didn't want the "we stamped Harley on it" tax.
I also looked at the JP cycles type stuff, they are all 1 1/4 and the downtubes are 1 3/8.
Thanks very much, guys.
Obviously the caps don't lock. Harley -- WHY THE FUCK NOT? I've never owned a motorcycle that did NOT have a locking gas cap, including cheap-ass little 250s.
That's just one of the things I enjoy about my Harley, no having to fuck around with a key to get gas. I've been able to disable the key on most of my other bikes, the others I just bitched about every time I stopped for gas.
Had a locking cap on a couple FLHT bikes in the past. The unlocking kind was a P&A item.
