After 4000 miles of my us tour my bikes having issues.

Its the dreaded r100gs shaft failure i think (58,0000 miles)
loud clunky sounds and feeling every few feet of travel.

On the plus side it failed as i arrived in New orleans (great place to be stuck)

I'm planning on renting a truck and dragging the bike to atlanta.
I have family/alterntive transportation to use while its being fixed.

    The question is.

Who in the metro Atlanta area can preform this work at a fair price.
I've been burned by the BMW dealers too much.

It was the shaft. trucked it to Baton rouge and the crew at herbert cycles took care of me in 5 hours.

unlike the folks at darwin who 'inspected the shaft' before i left

They did a great job and got my bike running better then its ever run.

Time to find a new SF shop

I'll post pix of the torn up shaft later

I haven't done much with them in recent years. they are (or used to be) mainly moto guzzi. the former manager is a friend of mine. the mechanics were good. i don't know who is there now. mike putney used to be the parts guy. his knowledge of bmw is extensive. it's a small shop shoehorned intn a strip mall. i helped remodel it a few years ago. some cool bikes came through there.

Thanks. Before buying the GS I was thinking about a Guzzi. I went by the shop a few times, but never managed to be there before closing time. Looks like a small shop with "exotic" used bikes. Never did talk to anyone.

There used to be a good head shop on Buford Highway by the Kroger in DeKalb, but last time I was there, they were gone and replaced by a bookstore.

    oh... AIRhead shop. Nevermind.

No, it was before Starship. Starship is way the hell on out there, right next to the dildo shop on Cheshire Bridge Rd , right? I think the one that was by Kroger near Druid Hills Rd was called Windfair or something. There's a Pikes Nursery right around there too.
