Any recommendations for a good mechanic in the KC metro area?
If you are wanting dealership work, Engle motors is the best. https://www.englemotors.com/
Maybe the only dealer in town but does not compare well to BMW or Triumph dealers elsewhere. YMMV.
Looking for other recommendations. Any independent shops?
Unfortunately I have been disappointed by the local Triumph shops as well, and have just started doing everything myself. When I got quotes to mount and balance tires at $55 per wheel with rims off the bike, I realized I am not rich enough to set foot in a dealership. And $1000 quoted for the 12k service, I gave up.
Following, in the hopes that someone will have a recommendation.
Spendy, but Tony did me a great job on my recent 48k GS service, shined up, running great and controls set perfect.
Routine service? Yep, they can do a fine job... Fix something and stand behind their job? YMMV...
I take my bikes to mechanics for problems that I can't fix either due to lack of knowledge or time. The Hallmark of a great dealer is that they employ master mechanics able to spend fewer hours than me to diagnose and fix. Keywords - "master mechanic," "fewer hours," and "fix." "Fix" means that they also stand by their work - warranty?
I have no problems paying for great service.
When you talk about tire changes at $55 are you dragging your online purchased tires in to the shop?
Perhaps I should expand the scope - how about any good independent shop?
I am a bit surprised by the [ ] response given that KC kingdom is a metropolitan area with about 2 million people and lots of bikes on the road...
What am I missing?
So, how about within 300 miles radius?
Well that might be why people are going to Hickory Union Moto in KCK.
Looks like a great option. Will stop by to see whether they will allow a frequent traveler to drop in from time to time. Thanks.
Over 250 views of this thread now... everyone uses Engles or HUM?
This seems to be norm nowadays. I stumbled this post and I am pretty sure this is a common issue all over. I am in Idaho. Finding a reliable shop is almost an impossible. Very disappointed in dealer services and outrageous prices... I was even willing to pay, but the customer service quality left a lot to wish for. So I started exploring options in Utah. Same crap! Bad communication, they don't reply emails, phones are never answered, messages not returned... I am now engaging in learning. University of YouTube, Haynes manual, and online resources. Finding a good honest mechanic is really hard (next to impossible in this neck of the woods). I wish I had the youth and the resources to be the one!
Good luck on your search! ~ Cheers
I have been going to Engles for 15 year. I have no complaints.
+1 on Engles. They are good and fair, normal dealer pricing..

I've always gotten good service at Gateway BMW in St. Louis if you are willing to go that far. They don't sell Triumphs so I don't know if they will work on them or not. They do also sell Beta and Royal-Enfield though. Shannon runs the service department and has always done me right.
