Vermont Fall Scene: Weather and circumstances got in the way of my annual fall trek into the Green Mountains of Vermont. Thus, no pics this year so here's a scene I took many shots of some years back - a sugarhouse in the fall. It captures the visual essence of fall rides in the area.

Autumn At A Favorite Bridge: Fall pics of my favorite bridge - Bardwell's Ferry Bridge at coordinates 42.555338, -72.677805.

This bridge speaks to you as you ride over it.

I wasn't the only rider who stopped.

I did stay a short bit, as I always do in the fall.

Scenes From The Road: Three quick pics taken on the road some days back.

I stopped by this big red barn (coordinates 42.542957, -72.679436) and then took a shot looking on down the road.

Some days the weather, road and ride are so good that you almost can't stand it. This was one of those. Below is the view across the road.

Nice Day For A Pork Chop Run: It was sunny and warmish with temps in the 60s this morning when I set out on a 175 mile run for some smoked pork chops. The nicer the weather, the longer the run.

Saw interesting things and caught some power moving in the RR yard. More to follow.

For the railroad experts on this thread-walking around Tellico Plains TN., noticed this building, maybe an old freight station?

Yup; looks like a railroad freight shed. Any sign of tracks beside the building?

Old Iron-Sided Has Gotten A Little Lopsided: Yesterday during my smoked pork chop run, I took a little jaunt down a road I'd taken some 6 years ago to see a covered bridge. This is how it looked in 2014.

For reasons that were never quite clear, they called this bridge "Old Ironsides." Perhaps it was named after the U.S.S. Constitution. The bridge didn't look too bad back then.

Yesterday, I didn't ride all they way down to the bridge. The road was covered with mud in spots, loose gravel, wet leaves and tons of acorns - just the stuff for an unplanned "get-off".

I walked down to see that the not-so-old bridge (i.e., built in 1975) looked a little worse for the wear.

The strapping and support beams strong suggest the bridge was trying to topple over and, perhaps, collapse.

Not to be a wise-ass, but perhaps speed limit 0 before getting onto the bridge would be a better idea.

I wouldn't drive my car across that. The bike perhaps but not a car. I am glad to see someone's making an attempt to save the bridge.

A buddy and I stopped on our last ride of the TMT. Very unsettling when a car passes and the boards move under your feet!

    Great pics, by the way!

Thanks! I must admit to being a little weird in that I love the sound and feel of those rattling planks under my wheels. It goes with liking tar snakes, too.

    Thanks for the updates John.

The photos of New England homes are great but when combined with fall colors makes them especially appealing to the eye this time of year...

Nautica Obscura: Saw this up close to the shore while riding this afternoon. No good place to pull over and get a clear shot of what appears to be a cluttered research boat on the reservoir. No other types of boats or floats are allowed out there.

I’m spending some time in CO. Went for a ride in Utah and came across this bridge:

It’s the Dewey bridge across the Colorado River.

Great pics, IMHO, that catch the remains in great detail. Appreciate the post. Thanks!

An Omen: While converting this picture and trying to get an accurate representation of the the temperature and luminosity, I thought it displayed the idea of the ill winds of winter blowing in.

Sure enough, it turned colder and snowed several days later.

Addenda & Errata: Got home from another 6 hour ride this afternoon and took advantage of the smoked chops I scored on Thursday at the sausage shop below. The place often doesn't have a batch smoked and ready until Friday or Saturday, so I lucked out.

Having come off a tiring (but good) ride, I wanted something easy to fix (e.g., 1-2 minute, high heat sear on each side and they're ready to eat). I also fried up some potatoes and onions as a side.

Edit Note: I am getting better fixing lens flare spots. The big one in the pic above was right over the bike.
