I have always used Google as my search engine. Generally when I am search I want results from forums (i.e real world experiences), however it seems recently (2 weeks or so) all I get now from Google is shopping results, ads and tons of youtube videos. Did something change, is there a way to search and not get all the damn ads? I played a little with Bing and it seems similar.

Any suggestions about using Google or a different search engine?

Different search engine: DuckDuckGo. They also don't track your history like the Google Overlords.

You can always add the word "forum" at the end.

The group that owns google own you tube. They de monetized a shit ton of videos and deleted a metric shit ton more than they de monetized. Meaning: they dumped some valuable revenue streams and are making up for it in other ways.

Thanks guys. I played with adding "forum" and it now seems to give only about 70 percent ads. LOL. I guess thats what I'll do from now on. I was hoping there was some miracle search engine I had not heard of.

I've noticed the same change. Nearly all the search results are shopping/ad results, even if that's not what you are requesting.

Duckduckgo still isn't a great search engine, honestly. Half the time it doesn't even find results I know exist, but it's been getting better.

Google has jumped the shark..Like with Facebook it is painfully obvious that you are not their customer. you are their product. The more you click, the more they earn.

Same problem. You are not alone.
My wife and I are pissed; most of our search results are now worthless.

If you don't want to buy something, stop googling products.

Try BING. Microsoft much less targeted ad search results and a company not based on showing you advertising to make money

Google something then add site:advrider.com or site:chopcult.com

Filter results just to those websites.

I would not walk across the street to dump a cold cup of coffee on Bill Gates and his Micro Suck if they were on fire. I got so fed up with BG, MS and Dell, we are now on tablets exclusively and google is what you say but we can deal with it.....so far.

I run adblock. That's not the problem here. The actual search results are shopping results/online catalogue listings/ebay listings complete with star'd reviews.

pretty much. why else are you googling for items, and looking for real world reviews of it? because you're probably interested in buying it, right? so those are actually relevant results. if you want some other sort of results, add modifiers - i.e. koso rx2n forum review

Yup, seemed to happen right around net netrality blowup. Google essentially useless now, and it's very, very difficult to actually find any information anymore. I literally and thinking of getting a library card again and brushing up on my index skills...

A big, hearty FUCK YOU to Google and all it's cronies. You used to be cool, man.
