So aim for URAVAN. The shelf road up to the top of the mesa there puts you right on the Rimrocker. The only issue you may have is La Sal Pass. Even when clear of snow it's a really rough ride. You may need to take a look at alternate routes off the road network west of Buckeye Res. John Brown is open and not too tough. All in All it's a great riding area and a perfect way to get to Moab.

    Have Fun!

The section of Transfer leading to the pictured site is nowhere near as tough as Engineer or Corkscrew. There are just a few steep sections that are a few hundred feet long. Should be fine on the GS. I forgot to mention that if you continue up the hill there are more sheltered spots as well.

Just rode Rimrocker (minus closed bits near Montrose) two weeks ago. it was awesome! Tabeguache Creek was raging and uncrossable, just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. Is Tabeguache Creek between Gateway & Moab?

The Tab Creek crossing on Rimrocker is just NW of Nucla:

Gorgeous ride yesterday. I left GJ about 9AM and rode highway over Unaweep Pass (had a looong construction stop for paving. Fascinating process of heating and stripping old asphalt and then laying it back down fresh and clean!) I picked up Rimrocker 28 miles south of Gateway. Really enjoyable ride! I stopped for a few photos, had lunch at Buckeye Reservoir and continued on my merry way. Things got interesting when I turned north on LaSalle Pass trail. Super rocky and loose. You really had to pay attention. I think the rough stuff lasted about 15 miles or so. Got to Moab about 4PM. Stopped for ice cream and fuel before heading back to GJ via River road to I70. Arrived home at 6:15PM. Ahhhh! Good day riding 285 miles total. 50/50 pavement & dirt.
