Sir John Surtees, Misano, 23rd June 1990; works Benelli 500/4: every other rider had shut down their bikes and were waiting patiently for for Sir John to finish warming his engine.
In the days before power steering! Had a set like that on my 1961 Triumph Trophy 650 - in this colour scheme.
I've often repeated a story about that bike. About 10 or 15 blokes standing around an 1100 at some event, immaculate, and some young punk walks up and has to tell everybody about how his R1 or similar would eat it for breakfast. So I asked him how many people were standing around in admiration of his motorbike. That shut him up.
My brother had that model and the earlier unfaired version. The earlier one had the nastiest engine vibration I've ever experienced on an in-line four.
