Anyone got a lead on the fault code reader for the 1200GS and like bikes. A guy on eBay is selling fault readers for oilheads...earlier than the R1200GS.

Looks like a necessity, but will defer to conventional list wisdom.

    I await the masses...

I've heard that a mini-GT1 was in the works for the home mechanic. I think it would be great if BMW supports work like this considering the low number of dealers and the even lower number of good dealers.

Ab-so-freaking-lootley. But not a chance that BMW would support it. It takes someone with the know-how to knock it off. BMW, at least in the states, only has 1.5% of the motorcycle market. They make a sizeable share off of dealers, parts and the service that they perform.

I was (am) quite inept as it comes to working on bikes. However, a good friend has the knowledge...and I have the garage, tools and a repair manual so we can do just about anything. The only thing that I don't believe that we can do on the new GSA is brakes (ABS service) and reading the fault sensor.

Someone please advise me if the fault sensor is something that needs to be read; if you don't have a shut down, or electrical failure I don't know of any reason for it. It just points you to a problem. I believe (suspect) that if there is a problem, the semi-aware BMW owner should know it.

Is there something that the reader detects that the owner would not know was a problem???

Doesn't help for a bike, but I put one of these in my car and think it was the best $150 I ever spent: http://www.scangauge.com/

Why can't bikes have a standard OBD port like cages?

In the FAQ section of their website...
    "
    How much does it cost?
There are two models, one with USB (GS-911usb) only and one with USB and Bluetooth (GS-911blu). The limited time introductory offer is as follows:
    GS-911blu : US$ 249.00
    GS-911usb: US$199.00

    That's the ticket!

And just imagine, Bluetooth capable. I had to laugh. I guess the only other upgrade would be a satellite uplink with the Mother Ship (BMW Deutschland):D

Anyone played around with this one yet....???

It doesn't sound like they have been released yet. The best I can get from their website is January '07 for first sales. Hope that they are beta-tested and ready to roll. I don't want to be a test monkey :rofl ...unless they feed me regularly.

insanity is not as easy as i make it look
if multiple people were interested. here is their email response to me. emailed him back this morning to see when they are available.

"thank for the interest. We will surely be shipping to the States - as a matter of fact i will be based in California on and off during the coming year ;-)

We are launching the GS-911 device (with Bluetooth and USB) at US$249 - this is an introductory special and will run until we have the distribution channels in place - which are mostly sorted, but I would still like to sell from this office for the first couple of months, to get the end-user feedback directly - something very important to us for bettering the product and sorting out the small glitches that pop up when you're launching on multiple platforms...

As for the cost break, I have been offering some groups a 10% discount on the intro price for 10+ orders (thus retail of US$224 per unit) - per definition, the intro price does not leave a lot of room for discount, which is the main reason why the intro offer will only run while we don't have the official distribution network in place."

OK, who is the contact person there, or is someone on ADVRider going to front the order. I would prefer that each of us deal directly with the manufactuer under the umbrella of the ADV Rider Buyers Group. That way, no one here has to handle collecting all of the payments, out going shipping, etc.

I am in for setting it up with the vendor if rthuey doesn't want to. Lets get this thing up and running. Hopefully we will be successful and not neophyte beta-testers.
