I have finally tested the refurbished head with a 700km jaunt to melbourne in drizzle and heat last weekend.
    Background....
I had persistent loose head and finally diagnosed a soft head, received my light valve set from Pirner after waiting several months.
Stripped it down and sent the bare head to heat treaters, sans the seats and guides.
Sent it all off to the engineers .....
    waited......
    waited......
    then some more waiting
Done :clap:clap:clap He had ordered seats based on the seats he took out knowing the head was being heat treated, and hadn't allowed for distortion..........Hmmmm

Put it all back together with care to maximise the compression did some heat cycles (local guzzi rally) as i'm using a copper head gasket and set off to visit my mum in Adelaide [with a small annoying oil leak I couldnt quite locate.] Only got 50 km and back home to replace the side cover gasket! Nope not that! half the day gone, gave up and took the Griso.
Proved to be the push rod tunnel seal, and is now oil tight and humming along.

So these heads can be re-hardened tho it seems the valve seats are deeper than most.
A little care and trimming on heads and barrel and use of a thinner head gasket can get up to 1 compression point ie. now measures 7.8:1
I'm happy with how it turned out

    Cheers, Kym

Can you feel any difference created by that extra compression????

did you get any hardness measurements before /after ?

i wonder what the lower limit is for the heads.

or was it just an 'experience' judgement ?

Hello leafman, I to have a good friend who lives close to me who had a 1990 +4 the same year as ours but sold it and now regrets parting with it. He also has a 1925 Morgan Gran Prix 3 wheeler which is in amazing condition. I cannot find the photo of me sitting in it but I will continue to look.
I wonder how many Falcone owners have sold their bike and regretted it. I like the easy relaxed ride at around 50/55 mph with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery while thumping along.

Before treatment the engineer made a statement like "not even registering on the scale", and I seem to remember him saying the scale starts at 35. After it was more like "that's great, no problems now".
He was using a commercial indent machine set up in his separate 'lab' room. I can ask next time I see him as he has asked to see the bike running.

And LFM "Of Course":imaposer, The seat of the pants says 'maybe a couple of ponies of the Shetland variety', tho on the freeway I had the speedo needle bouncing around above 130kph so I'm happy with the way things are.
The accuracy of my measuring, and allowances for the indents and crowns in the piston etc would not stand up to any sort of scientific scrutiny, and so the reason for using the term "up to" in the earlier post.

    clutch side cover removal:

i'm not clear and a lot of the photobucket photos have gone :

do i need to remove this staked lock nut (and circular pressed plate behind) to get the cover off?

or should the cover inc oil seal slide over the pressed steel circular plate behind the nut?
ive got all the bolts etc out and cover doesnt seem to want to slide off- but i havent undone this staked nut

    hence my question.

    Hello,
    yes that nut shall be removed ( provided that the bended lip is lifted ) make sure to have the spare nut , it cost few cents;

Warning:after the nut is removed, do not allow the camshaft to remain attached to the cover and take off from its headquarters.

In the case , to prevent this happen, before removing the cover, give a few small shot with a rubber hammer.

If however, the camshaft should come off, it must be reassembled,
to preserve the correct "phasing", respecting the white signs, indicative, painted on the gears.

    Based on my personal experience, a really good engine motor oil, can made the difference;

Since I use Cxxxxl 20W50 Power 1 Release for bikes 4 strokes, I notest that the original performances are restored with much beter accelerations,
I'm really happy of the NF performances with this oil , ;)

    Hi,
In case anybody is searching the paint codes for the NF:

    Color code summary:

Nuovo Falcone Militare Esercito Italiano (Italian Army)
Original Guzzi color code: Verde opaco 292 (mat green 292)
new Lechler-Code system: Verde Esercito Italiano GUZ 13A
equivalent alternative option : RAL 6014

Nuovo Falcone Militare Esercito Yugoslavo (Yugoslav Army)
    Original Guzzi code : Verde 290 ( Green 290)

Nuovo Falcone Militare Polizia Stradale (Italian traffic police )
Original: Verde lucido 291 (gloss green 291)

Nuovo Falcone Militare Carabinieri (Italian Military Police)
Original: Blu Scuro 240 (Dark Blu 240)
New Lechler-code system: Blu Corazzieri GUZ 11 (blu Presidential Guard GUZ 11)
equivalent alternative option: RAL 5022 Blu night
    Important remarks:

It seems that there is a problem with the color code GUZZI 11 Blue Corazzieri, that blue is lighter than the one of the Carabinieri
the RAL 5022 is closer to the original blue

It is always better to double check, and to cross check the controls
of the so-called original codes or recoded with those RAL that are very close to the required colors

I had to add the note: except for errors or omissions

Nuovo Falcone Militare Vigili Urbani Comune di Roma (Rome Municipal Police)
Original: Blu Scuro 230 (Dark light blu 230)
New Lechler-code system: Blu Roma GUZ 12

Nuovo Falcone Militare Vigili del Fuoco (Fire brigade police)
Original : Rosso brillante (Gloss Red)
New Lechler-code system : Rosso Fuoco GUZ A18 ( Red fire)

Nuovo Falcone Militare Sahara ( for civil market)
Original: Beige "Villa Glory" 440 (Beige)
Original frame work : Nero opaco 507 (mat black)
New Lechler-code system (tank, tool boxes and mudgards): Beige Sabbia GUZ 31A ( sand beige)
New Lechler- code system: (frame) Nero opaco (mat black)
equivalent alternative option RAL-code: 1001 (Beige) (tank)
equivalent alternative option :RAL-code: (Mat black) (frame)

    Nuovo Falcone Civile 1. Serie
Original: (frame)Rosso fuoco 105 (Red fire)
Original : (tank , tool boxes and mud gards) Bianco 410 (White)
New Lechler-code system : (frame) Rosso Fuoco GUZ A18 (Red fire)
New Lechler- code system : (tank) Bianco GUZ A20 (White)
equivalent alternative option : (frame) RAL-code: 3002 (Red carminio)

    Nuovo Falcone Civile 2. Serie

    Bordeaux (tank and tool boxes)

Attention: the RAL code may be slight different from the original colors

Has anyone discovered any reliable statistics for the number of each model that were produced???
The books I have are inconclusive.

    Hi leafman,

in total were built 16274 Nuovo Falcone's,
    splitted in this way:

2874 Civil models all included (serie 1 and serie2)
with serial number from CF11111 till CF13985
(with progressive numerical system (CF as per NF Civile)

and 13400 Militare, included the Sahara version (the details of the amount of NF Militare produced with different colors are unkwon)
the entire production of the Militare is identified with serial number from NF 00 AA till NF 99 GH
( with alfanumerical numbering system,a letter change every one hundred numbers)
(starting from NF 00 AA , NF 01 AA ,NF 02 AA ....NF 99 AA than NF 00 AB, NF 01 AB,...etc.)

(The italian alphabet has 21 letters only , and do not include J,K,W,X,Y)
