So it looks like we're moving up to the mountains in a few months, just off 250 in McDowell.
The inlaws aren't doing too well and we want to be closer to them.
The miles of twisties and beautiful scenery didn't influence our decision at all.

Sorry about your in-laws but you couldn't find a nicer location.

    YOUR MEMORY is fading!
That pic was a hole different trip, a whole different bike (you even said it was a KLR but even there you're still wrong as it was the 1st trip with the DRZ400). I was stopping to take pictures of you coming up, there was no level place to put the kickstand down so I hopped off and let it fall. But you apparently were already following on the other side. I says to myself damn, he's already upbound! Why the hell would he take THAT side?!?! It's impossible...THUD! ....dang, didn't get the camera out in time....

I would have stuck with not being able to ride a KLR up Union Springs..... that is understandable. I knew you were on a DRZ but was trying to cover for you a bit by making it sound harder and not calling out your name. :pot

Is that section of Union Springs what you would consider "bad"? Also, is that typical of the entire road?

Bad is just such a relative term. Many riders would consider it great. I didn’t think it was really all that bad on a mid size bike but I hurt myself. If your talking about taking your tiger down and back up, I wouldn’t unless you consider yourself pretty capable.

Going up to Flagpole and down Dunkle is very nice and can be just a bit challenging after a lot of rain. I consider it big bike friendly. Also it is fairly well travelled if u have a problem.

    Gotcha.

The photo doesn't look all that bad. Not any worse than parts of Howardsville Tpk. But I'm also not keen on getting in over my head, especially when riding alone.

I don't consider myself all that capable. I can do forest roads and groomed stuff, but the technical rocky garbage and "I don't know how deep that is" mud is what makes my snarglies shrivel. And getting into a place I can't get out of.

If your talking about the photo of Moymurph and his GS, that is NOT Union Springs. No comparison, that was just some basic road out around Laurel Fork.

The tougher part of Union Springs is very close to where Dunkle turns off. It is also very short. You can walk down and see it and decide for yourself. You can also ride down and out towards Hinton. No need come back up Union Springs.
