I hate to say it, 'cause I'm not a flame guy, but that looks really good.
Saw that on the FB group, I think it looks absolutely amazing
Posted in the PA owners thread, but figured I'd venture into this thread too.
Took delivery of July 1. Promptly put the 1000 miles on ahead of a week trip into NorCal. I had none of the issues ahead of my trip/1000 mile service. On day 1 or 2 of trip, I started to get the dreaded starter whine. On day 3, just before heading into remote mountains roads with two friends, I noticed just a slight off throttle/decel rattle at about 4000-4200 RPM. Over the course of this 60 mile/2.5 hour road, the noise expanded to 4-5000 RPM and then, during the last 10 miles, the noise became like rocks in a can. I was certain halfway thru the trip that the engine was fubar'd, but super remote and on a constant decline on a tight mountain road with no shoulder pull off. Just rode it out. CEL light never came on rather surprisingly, until we descended into a small town and I was able to shut it off.
Nothing like leaving your bike 14 hours from home. No rental cars anywhere, lol to even trailer back. Heard from the tech today what we both already knew.... going to be "catastrophic engine failure" due to cam tensioner becoming dislodged an grenading the engine at that point. They are still slowly tearing it down and sending vids/photos to the MoCo. Sigh.... biggest concern is: I want new engine (which the tech said is likely due to wanting the MoCo probably wanting it for 'forensics') and the hassle of getting a bike back from 14 hours away. Hoping the dealerships can work something out cuz the MoCo isn't going to be of help there (which I get, but disappointing as well).
Ouch. Sorry to hear that your motor grenaded.
Is this the first instance of a cam chain tensioner failing?
Ironic, didn’t the early Twin Cams have cam chain tensioner issues?
Supposedly the dealer said the MoCo told him this was the first "catastrophic total engine failure" but I did see in a fb group someone had a new engine shipped to them and I don't remember the details. Who knows.
The laced wheels were not available when I got my PA, and I'm not too bothered by that. The cast wheels will work fine for my usage.
My special came in with the cast wheels and the dealer swapped them for wire wheels of another bike when it came in. I wanted the wires for resale. but after putting 700mi on the cast wheels, I will be looking for a set of cast takeoffs on E-Bay. Much improved handling and ride with the cast in my opinion.
Yeah I’ll be looking for a set of cast wheels to put 80/20 tires on and keep knobbies on my laced rims for a quick switch on demand.
Looking for cast wheels to mount sportbike tires on.
After looking at my rear tire today, I'll be putting more road worthy tires on soon.
How many miles?
Saw that too, bad oil pump.
Anyone heard how many PA's have been sold? HD corporate doesn't seem to make public units sold statistics, but maybe someone with a dealer connection might know?
Can you post a picture?
You guys need to have a chat with your fellow PA riders! I saw 5 of them in Big Bear this weekend and do you want to guess how many waved at me on my Multistrada?!?!? ZERO! Fukkers lol!
