They probably would give you decent trade value on a GSA. Problem solved.
I like the PA significantly more in many areas. You know this isn't an all or nothing game right? Seems like people get huffy about any criticisms . This is a design deficiency that I wish it didn't have and hope they address on the next gen.
The GS has plenty of design deficiencies too, it just happens to be "right" in this area. HD did not do their homework here, and this is something that should have been pretty obvious had they hired some experienced riders to provide guidance.
The more places that anyone at HD can glean actionable criticisms the better. This one is easy. Larger front fender and move the R/R to above the radiator. Make sure stones don't have a direct line to the radiator. Done.
I cannot disagree with any of the points you made. HD had also better address the starting issue sooner than later. Sounds like shit and makes one wonder when the starter is going to leave you sit.
Harley does this so you will go out and buy their loud horn. Then when you realize how bad that is, you go out and buy a good aftermarket horn like the Denali mini sound bomb.
Harley is expediting a complete new engine. It's really the only option as a owner of a bike less than a month old with 2,000 miles that seemed reasonable. Hopefully it will be squared away in the next couple of weeks. Bad news is, I either have to fly and ride 14 hours home or fingers crossed, they will trailer it to a sister dealer that's only a few hours from me.
Are the roads fun between you and them? If so, see if they will refund a plane ticket
Imagine if Harley built the PA with cylinder heads sticking out the sides being exposed to rocks and tipovers?
Here's my review after being able to spend more time with it:
You really think the cylinders are more fragile than a radiator? I know which one I would rather have stones hit. GS cylinders are above the pegs, so if you are talking embedded rocks that big, you're in terrain no big bike should be in.
Really enjoyed the video, very well done!!
Don't feel bad. I was just at the Lincoln dealership, in the service department, and overheard the service advisor telling a customer over the phone that his Lincoln needed a new engine. It was covered under warranty. I am sure they paid more for their Lincoln than the Pan Am costs.
Glad they are taking care of it. I would inquire about them helping with airfare, or shipping the bike to you given the circumstances. Can't hurt to ask.
Just picked up new Pan American Special (Deadwood Green), original ordered May, 2021. Added a picture of owners manual and other papers that came with the bike. Note the AWESOME multi tool
Sorry about the upside down image
No problem. Looks like the tool will work either way . .
(Actually didn’t notice, while checking out the toolkit)
Liking the green!
My point is if **Harley** did it the criticism would never end.
thanks, enjoyed that. Kurt (and his pal) are good fun , and he's such a good rider.
Unpublished but shareable Rox Speed 2" Bar riser install and ride review video for HD Pan America
I think not.
