It would be a sad day for the Duc brand...
If H-D buys Ducati then the brand will lose much of its appeal, imo. We all know about the exquisite crap H-D produces...

Not in the slightest. One is depressant and can land you in jail. While the other arguably helps the largely mouth-breathing and inattentive drivers.

    This.

Unless... HD is largely hands-off with Ducati. Though we saw how well that went with Buell.

As a Ducati owner, I hope H-D stays away.

It's pretty much a done deal most of the other bidders have already dropped out

It isn't an auction. If VW does not feel that a bid is sufficient, they can certainly refuse a sale.

No kidding but from what I read they were wanting at least 1.5 to 1.6 billion for Ducati everybody else said they weren't going to go that high, Harley said they would go up to 1.7 billion

I'm certain it isn't all about who pays the most. There are a thousand things to be considered, ie. Is manufacturing to stay within Italy and for how long, can parts be outsourced, etc. The government will be chiming in on this as there are jobs at stake.

As a guy without a dog in the fight........Harley Davidson could stand to "get" into more markets than they are. Adventure , Sport , etc... I know lots of folks aren't keen on the Chrome Empire taking the keys to that kingdom , But I would feel better having them at the helm than they end up being handled by a party not made up of Motorcycle enthusiast.I don't see where Ducati would need anything other than the revenue , they are a very established motorcycle brand themselves. No disrespect meant to Buell or even MV Augusta , but Ducati is a much larger , more profitable company than those two were. Again , outsiders perspective , so don't hate on me too hard. There is a Ducati on my wish list though........

My first reaction (other than thank goodness it isn't Moto Guzzi) is will that affect Ducati in MotoGP racing? It seems over half the bikes in the series are Ducati's and H-D never seems to stick with road racing.

After what HD did with/to Buell how could this be good? Consider: when HD decided to take an epic shit on Buell it was the only profitable part of the company, HD sat on all the IP and patented technology Buell brought to the company and wouldn't let Erik touch any of it.

If HD can blow Buell out of the water for 'diluting the HD brand ' when Buell not only rowing the boat up stream at a very tough time in the economy, more then pulling their weight, and was the only part of the company doing so; what do you imagine they're going to do with/to an outlier like Ducati?

    Good Fucking Luck!

How could Ducati be worth 1.7 billion? If they're that profitable why are they being repeatedly put on the market. If Harleys doing it just to get their bikes into more European showrooms they're crazy.

H-D will ruin Ducati. They don't have enough sense. Although assless chaps on a female passenger on a Duc would be entertaining.
