My brother, a friend and I will be headed up to Newfoundland for a week and a half after labor day. We're just getting our ferry tickets and the like squared away, but thought I'd make a quick post to see if anyone could give us an update on the black fly / mosquito front. Will the worst of it be past by the second week of September, or should we soak everything in permethrin? Any other advice is appreciated. For now, we're just planning on riding the old rail line a good bit and generally exploring around. We'll be camping as we go and maybe doing a little fishing within the regulated zone around Provincial highways (which I trust we'll get a feel for when we buy our licenses). We're still figuring out if we stay to the Western side of the island and head North (which our friend has already done -- albeit in a car) or if we head West from St. John and spend our time traversing the across from the East.
