I'm planning a trip to AK and across Canada this summer. On a previous trip to AK years ago I purchased a round plastic bubble style headlight guard for protection from flying rocks on some of the gravel roads. It came in handy a few times. I still have it but it's turned yellow with age. Are these still readily available in northern auto parts stores? There's nothing of the sort here in the south, and a search on the net comes back empty. I've seen some of the stick-on film headlight protectors but this isn't quite what I'm looking for.
Model-specific protectors are available for many bikes and are generally heavier and stronger than the lightweight automobile protectors found in auto parts stores. Have you checked into one of those?
I've seen them for sale at truck stops up here, as well as a wire mesh style. Othere than Candian Tire will (probably) have them.
I bought mine here: http://www.ceebaileys.com/bmw/1150gsgrds.htm Not cheap, but they have been on since 2003 and haven't turned yellow.
I made this for my GS out of 3/8" rod and some rubber coated mesh for cheap. I know it is ugly but it get's the job done.
Thanks for all the responses. It looks like I have several options to consider now. BTW Alcan Rider, is the homepage on your public profile still active?
