Nothing but curves any direction from Placerville.
Pirates out the ass, everywhere.
I was heading up to Imogene yesterday after work. Got caught in a gaggle of them coming thru the roundabout at Society turn, so I fell in rank. The lady in front of me was crazy! License plate NJesus. Get back whip flying, kept reaching with left hand to fiddle her cross hanging from right handlebar (Gods Gremlin Bell?) then she would hold her left hand up like feeling the lord. I get being religious works for many, but Jesus, her love of Jesus looked like it would get her killed the way she was riding!
Also, just fyi. New signs for when they block our towns main block. Nothing about bikers, just detour/special event. I feel welcomed again in my hometown..
Back in the day you could hit that dirt road that parallels 145 from the CDOT at Deep Creek all the way down to just above Sawpit. Kind of miss that being open. Maybe you wouldn't beat the crowd, but you wouldn't be in it!
Must have been mid-late 90's when they closed it. Shortly after some boulders took at part of the highway and that road (just above Sawpit).
Bump. Stay safe out there, folks.
went to Sturgis rally 1x the ultimate sausage / poser fest
But the roads up there are nice the rest of the year
Question: Will the pirates be mostly gone by the weekend after Labor Day weekend?
I would would think most pirates will have to get back to their practices (Law, Medical, Dental, etc.) by Tuesday. I plan on riding some passes above Silverton.
Some poor soul apparently got run over and killed in a parking lot at Thunder in the Rockies today.
Got an amigo that moved from Steamboat to Aspen a few years back to work at the airport.
He said there was a group of "local bikers" there that would get all dressed up in their costumes and ride around town making noise, being seen, and being obnoxious.
He said that the locals called them ................................... "HELL'S REALTORS" !!!!!
Now that's funny stuff.
So loud pipes DON'T save lives?
In hindsight, they probably got run over by a truck and trailer that was carrying bikes ................ you know, for rugged individualists.
Ironic considering how many rugged adventure riders haul their bikes with a truck and trailer...
First, Ride In Peace.
Second, What's Thunder?
Reminds me of a South Park episode.
A news story from the past (1978):
Many years ago (before the internet) a biker gang from Colorado and Kansas On their way home they stopped at a local bar in mining town in northern NM. The evidently harassed and annoyed the locals. They were reported to be "terrorizing the town".
A friend, who grew up in that town, told me a few locals with shotguns in pickup trucks went biker hunting later that night. The bikers called the police for protection from the locals. The police surround the biker camp. The next morning they were escorted to the state line. The police recommended they not return via that route.
If I remember the news correctly the only casualties were 4 bikers wounded.
I guess it is a good idea to not F with the locals.
Correction: I finally found a historical reference

No official rally in Ignacio this year. The Harley store in Durango hastily set up a mini-rally; I haven't noticed much of an increase in bike numbers in the area so far.
Have a good weekend.
Good public service announcement, Josh! If it just saves one life from an awful fate, it will be worth it!
