We routinely do on-the-road checks of conditions along Heart of the West ADV Route. Good thing, too, for a recent pre-season inspection uncovered a dark plot to lay assfault on a long segment in Wyoming! :fpalm

We needed a plan to deal with this dastardly act, and fast, for the season is nigh. Edward Abbey's Monkey Wrench Gang came to mind, but just briefly. So we searched around a bit, studied our maps :cromag... and found a solution that is a thousand times better than the original: a long stretch of beautiful, meandering little dirt road with inspiring vistas.

As always, the route is being updated, and HoW clients will soon receive the latest file. That's just one of the benefits of our continuing effort to keep this dynamic route one of North America's greatest motoring adventures.

I sure would like to know if this

    Is still here

Here is our report. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=826706 We did a one week trip and had an awesome time. We had to cut of the very Western parts but may come back next year to do that.
It is a great ride. I have never heard of anyone being disappointed by this trip except maybe Kevin. His DR quit in Encampment, Wy and had to get Wild Bill and his Wife to take him back to Colorado.

An old railroad spike worked its way up from the depths of history along the Transcontinental Railroad National Back Country Byway the other day, a H.o.W. traveler from Florida reports. It destroyed a tire on his Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

So when you're there, beware of these:

Montana's historic and lovingly preserved Bannack ghost town, once Montana's territorial capital, was hit July 17 by a powerful flood. A popular stop along Heart of the West ADV Route, it expected to be closed for next five weeks or so.

Here it is after repairs and restoration ...

News report says it was flash flood. It does sit right on the banks of the Grasshopper River.
