I'm out on the route now. It was smoky in Idaho, but gorgeous today in Montana!
We found that the last week of August '21 alternated between smoky, clear and hazy along HoW's Montana sections. The vague silhouette in the far distance is the Continental Divide ...
At day's end, there were sunsets ...
Followed by clear (and cold!) mornings ...

The 2021 season for Heart of the West ADV Route will end soon, even though these autumn days are invitingly cool, mostly dry, and bug-free. Despite all that is going on in the world, it has been a good season.
So, we soon will turn our attention to inspecting HoW's exhilarating (and challenging, in places) Southern California Connector, a major GPS-guided wildland journey in its own right ... across the Mojave Desert to the Grand Canyon to Bears Ears to Moab and, finally, to HoW's unparalleled web of interconnected loops.
HoW's Southern California Connector -- like its Northern California Connector -- is one of a number of routes that we've link together to conveniently extend HoW's reach from Canada to Mexico, and (depending on wildfire impacts), from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.
