I am bringing this from the big list because I love this idea.

I know that I need a new bag and a few straps. This is the way to help someone that wouldn't feel right about taking handouts. IMHO

    a thought."

    Jon,

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Helen is almost a neigbor to me, her shop in Ann Arbor is only about 70
miles away. She's provided friendship and entertainment to me at rallies,
we've shared jokes and sarcastic put-downs and smiles. She's critiqued my
bike and my gear and made my SO comfortable at Bulow / Bike Week in 2001.

I've thought about contributing a gift of money, and probably will, but have
also worried about offending her self-help attitudes. I don't want a gift
to Helen to come with any mental baggage for her.

On the other hand, I've been wanting to buy some of Helen's luggage for
years. I already use her straps and am pleased. But the dry-bags I've been
using from my kayaking days have been wearing out so slowly, that I have
procrastinated - for a long time. At rallies, Helen would say "Don't worry
about it, when the time is right we'll be here."

Well, it seems to me that the time is right.

So I'm going to go to her website tonight, find what I need, and treat
myself to the best. I'm going to leisurely pick out what I want, add in the
shipping, and mail a check off to Charlie with a note that says words to the
    effect:

    "Charlie,
I'm aware of what's up with Helen. Enclosed is a check for $XX.xx, to
    cover my order.
Bear in mind there's no hurry on you guys filling this order, that I
realize and understand what you guys are dealing with. I won't bug you, and
when the time is right on your end go ahead and ship my order to me.
All the best to Helen. Sharon and I are thinking good thoughts of her.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery,
    Doug Grosjean"

I call the idea the "No Excess Baggage" idea.

Helen is a business person, and even if it turns out that she scorns charity
she won't scorn a sale. I'll get great luggage, and a warm fuzzy every time
I use the gear. Helen et al get to clean out their stocks, if that's
helpful for them. And Helen gets money without any emotional baggage as
    well.

In addition, there's one more angle on this - Helen tours to be able to sell
product at the shows and rallies. Just a thought - but I'd volunteer to
help staff a booth with Charlie or any of her staff. I would read the
features, bring my bike, talk a lot (I have some experience).... It would
be an honor and a grin to be one of the quirky and eccentric riders /
hanger-ons / sales staff that have made Helen's tent a cool place to visit
    at rallies.

I have no idea how to get this suggestion across Charlie's radar screen, and
maybe this exact second isn't the time to volunteer to fill display-help
slots. But I'm willing, when the time is right.

Well I guess that I assumed that people had seen the posts on lists or other but... H2W was nailed ... here is a snippet from the beeg list

Helen 2 Wheels was involved in an accident Monday in MO and is currently in
the surgical ICU at University of Missouri Health Care. Brian and Karen
Burdette are with her now and had a brief conversation with Helen yesterday.

She was hit by a turning car, injuries include a severely broken leg, ribs
and some extensive hand damage. Unfortunately this in not the complete
list. Recovery looks to be a long and difficult process.

There is also information in the Face Plant section but I too tend to avoid that section.

I will openly and honestly say that the gear that is sold under the name Helen2Wheels is the best that you can buy bar none. And it's not even ridiculously priced. This woman tours constantly to rally's and gatherings peddling and partying to and with us bikers as a whole. She is one of us more thatn most of even are. So if anyone deserves support from our community it is her. PLUS her stuff is BAD ASS.

She'll be back at next summer I'm sure. But let's try to give her business the winter boost that they could only dream of.

Been thinking about adding some more H2W bags to accomodate two-up camping. Would probably have to lose my BMW topcase to make it happen. Anyone out there camping two-up with Helen's bags who would care to post some pictures of your GS loaded for the road and a description of how you made it work?

Picked up my first H2W product the other day. Bought the Clothes Sack pictured below.

Definitely designed for the motorcyclist, it beats the heck out of my other "gym bag" style luggage.

    Highly recommended.

BTW, Helen's website (let's see if I can post a link) has an October 7th update on her accident.
