I finally got around to going to Poet Suzuki Motorcycle.

They are closed over the weekend.
Apparently, these guys know how to set up their business hours, cause they sold about 200 MC Last year!

The Honda Yahmaha place with out of business last year.

I've always posted that Suzuki has the best Fleet.
    They have a DR200 for $3,999. A DR650 for $5,999. Both 2018.
He said The Mitghty DR is his best selling unit.

He was a dealer for Royal Enfield Himalayan, but he cut them after they made some changes and got" too big for their britches."
He has two brand new Classic Bullet 550s.
I told him I was interested in the Himi, and he told me the DR is better.
No doubt, but I wanted something different.

There were lots of folks coming and going. Hell, there was a Japanese couple on a RTW Tour on a AT 750.
They liked the USA but said it was expensive.
They said Argentina was expensive too. I think.

They had plenty of folks coming and going. Fairly busy.

Week 7 at Tally Lake Ranger District went well.

We actually were able to see a wolf just east of Star Meadow. Hopefully, I'll have a pic up soon.

We had a more detailed perscribtion this time.
    Protect all Pondi Pine
Western Lurch is 2nd protected, but we could get rid of a weak one next to a good one, or one that was a leaner from the snow.
    Spurce was next
Lodge Pole and Douglas Fir were to be destroyed, unless they were a good ways off from any other trees. Rare.

We were trying to protect the private land near by, and also help timber sales later with the Western Larch.

We also had a project to cut down Mountain Maple that had gotten too tall.

The Forest Service personnel were great and gave us lot of information on getting hired as seasonal.

I learned more about trees and got plenty of hours with the chainsaw.

There were a few dirt bike tourist riding around Tally.

It rained a little at night, and one day when we went to Whitefish it rained good.
I recommend the 2nd Street pizza place.
Rained some on the 3rd when we left the Supervisor Office for the Flathead.

    __

Our next hitch is in Glacier national Park. St Mary's. A bunch of Douglas Fir has been dropped and we need to buck them and stack them.
We will have some down time to check out Logan's Pass and some other stuff.
This will be our first time working in a National Park.

    I hope everyone has a good 4th.

Here is the best pic of the wolf I have so far.

Another guy took a great pic, but he left the program. I doubt we will ever see it again.

The Glacier national Park Hitch went well.

We were bucking down trees near Park resources and pilling them up so they can burn them this early Spring. I liked the work because I was squatting and lifting over my head.

    At Logan's Pass we saw:
    Griz
    White Mt Goat
    Big horn ram.

Near St Mary's Campground we saw:
    Griz (200 meters away)
    Black Bear

In Many Glacier we drove around and went on a easy hike. We saw:
    Moose with calf
    Black bearwith cub.

At St. Mary's Campground a black Bear walked through around 8:00pm.
    Maybe 3 years old, tops.
I was impressed with how it stopped on a dime when it is running.

When we drove through to Columbia Falls, we just saw one buck.

Half way through we had a nasty wind storm at St. Mary's Campground. Maybe 50mph at times. Good thing I was in my tent. It would have blow away with ease and been lost.

    ___
Next hitch is East Rosebed Lake.
We will be cutting back vedge from the trails there.

    ____
I saw a pair of G310GS on the way there.

    The last hitch went well.

We improved some trails that lead up the Mt from East Rosebud campground in the Red Lodge Ranger District.. An Alder shrub does not die off in the winter and so it can grow towards the edge of the trail.
We hiked up to Sylvan Lake, which is about 3,000 elevation change from the trail head. We hide the tools near the top and would hike back up to them. Each day that morning hike was less and less.
Lots of folks were going to the lake for golden trout so there were plenty of folk to talk to and still plenty of berries for all.

On our last day we drove through Red Lodge and ate and hung out. Business was good. So good that some places closed down not much after 1800. They are a 12 month town due to the ski Lodge near buy.

On the way back we road on Beartooth Highway and was at the peak at dawn. On the way down we were shocked to see a Mt Lion run across the road and go up the hill. Truley a rare feat. I'm sure most of you'all think I'm a lie for posting that. It was around 0602.
In Yellowstone we we're lucky enough to have two bison play fighting next to us.

We got back into Helena before noon on Wednesday and we noticed the haze from fires. We did our end of season derigging.

Yesterday we got our certificates. There were some folks from Bozeman there and a Veterans Specialist from US Senator Testers office. He asked us what DC could do to help us. He got lots of feedback. He is a good guy and well spoken.

    ----
One of my buddies left his rear window down in his SUV and had plenty of stuff in it and nothing was taken! For 8 days he was parked out front of the MCC Office.

On Saturday I'll travel to Missoula and help a buddy move in. He will work in Superior.
The next week I'll take care of some University stuff and then go drive around a little until I can move in to my new place.

    ___
I may have the wolf pic up soon. 75% chance.

    __
I hope the rest of the summer goes well. I enjoyed my time in Helena.

And the bill to make East Rosebud River (or Creek) a wild and scenic river just got signed if I read that correctly. Maybe that's why the trail was getting cleaned up

I'm glad you posted that. Some land owners talked to me and they (husband and wife) wanted it passed.

We just worked in the first 1.5 miles of the trail before the wilderness sign.

Helena is having a big festival next Friday and Saturday. The bikes refers to bicycles but there is nothing to prevent folks from riding in motorcycles. The city is offering camping in the big park (Centennial Park) across from the venue, Memorial Park. It should be a cool event and I like the camping and showers provided by the city.

OK, at the behest of @cwegga, I'm pulling out the virtual defibrillator, applying the conductive gel to this thread and ... 3, 2, 1, clear!, ZAP!!!!!! to see if I can get a pulse.

I'm a Lincoln inmate putting out a general invite to join me on an upcoming late spring, early summer Lookout! Look Out!! ride touring a handful of USFS fire lookout towers in and around the Blackfoot valley. Included are the Mt Morrell tower out of Seeley Lake, Granite Butte just up and over from Stemple Pass and last but not least the operational lookout atop Stonewall mountain.

Folks are welcome to come out on a Friday night with plenty of room at my place to accommodate couchspace/floorspace/tentspace for a good bunch of riders such that Saturday will see kickstands up by 8:00am for a good old american style lube job breakfast in town and then we ride. First two are big bike friendly with the third reserved for small-to-mid-sized machines for a Sunday 1/2 day two-track ride allowing plenty of time to get back to home town to stow gear, clean up the bike and be ready for the day job come Monday.

I'll have to make sundry recon rides to gauge when the high country will be sufficiently open to host a group so stay tuned ...

Good top elevation drift bustin' to ya!

I would definitely be interested. I'm in Helena and have a couple of other guys that ride with me who would also likely want to check it out. Keep posting info and hopefully it works out. Thanks!

I've used this time at home to get some final tweaks done on my bike. All this home time might actually satisfy my introvertedness and I think I'll be ready to actually see people and do group rides when all this is over. For now I'm just ripping up the yard with the kids sitting on the gas tank.

Not yet. I've been thinking about that sort of thing. I went and filled up my tank last weekend but I haven't used it yet.
This snow we are getting right now won't help.

Rode over Stemple Pass yesterday down to #279 and back ... clear of snow all the way but pretty gooey & snotty. Glad I was on light 'n lithe Thumpette and not on the big girl as I currently have 90/10 skins on 'er:

Sorry, I've been gone a while, glad to see some life on here. I'm definitely interested in this ride. Let me know what's going on with it, and I'll see if I can make it.
