Alright lads, A great thread which I didn't expect to call on quite so soon. I'm an old fella from the UK new in Sydney..
(I'd like to say I rode all the way, but didn't) ....and hastily bought a 2007 KLR650 the other day which says its only done 27k km but it might be seeing 27 k for the 2nd time I reckon.
It needs a rear shock before I start my travels, Found a guy in NSW, (but up near QLD) who breaks them, and is happy to post one out to me, if I can get a post office to accept it - (gonna ask around today). I brought along a few tools but not enough to change the shock. If anyone has workshop facilities in/around Syd, I'd obviously be happy to hear. I can ride it ok but it ain't much fun.
    thanks in anticipation
    cheers, bob

So, there is place in Newton in Sydney called Rising Sun workshop, which is a restaurant and a workshop and you can become member and bring your bike to work on yourself (?) if you don't have the tools. Or something like that.

    Just heard about it anecdotally.

Nice one Bikeroz, Up the Princes highway toward city. I'm well familiar with that route already, thanks to Ikea for the occasional meatball and some wifi.
I'll nip over and check 'em out. Thank you.

Rising sun Its a bar Its a workshop with ramps, tools, mechanical assistance ($45/hr)if required, did I mention it has a bar? Not my first call as just passing through as a yearly subscription is required $200 to $700 depending on how much ramp time you expect to use, plus charge for ramp time minimum 2 hours. If you expect to stay here for a month or more. you could justify it maybe.

An excellent offer thanks. I've adapted to riding my 'buckin bronco' and I'm already north of you, to see a guy near the QLD border who breaks KLRs for fun and beer tokens.
I tried the scenic route Putty Rd but it was closed near Colo Heights so I pointed the bike East, crossed the berowra river ferry crossing - the whole area-such great scenery - then on the Pacific Hwy approaching Newcastle at a fairly leisurely pace. Overhead signs indicate road closures ahead so I've stopped to check online.

Thank you oldgriffo. I'm now at Grafton, sticking to the Pacific Hwy with a few detours on the way. 20191125_003644a.jpg
Bringing the odd thunderstorm and rain shower with me, and the KLR is still rolling. I'll PM you in a week or so when I'm southbound again.
Thanks again for your offers of assistance lads.

Could someone who is good with computers do a map of Australia with a flag in each location of everyone willing to help.
Then when the flag is clicked their details come up.
Would be really quick way for someone to find their nearest "helper"
Also if possible make the map so that new helpers can just add a flag at their location.

    Cheers
