I gave that a thought, but in order for me to get to some places I need to take the autopista. This is like a autobahn where cars typically drive at 85mph plus and even buses keep a sustained 95 kph. Two up on a dr650 here with knobbies would be scary. Otherwise YES! A DR650 KLR or Sertao would be perfect! For example: Cuernavaca to Acapulco is a 1:45 minutes at 80 mph.
My riding two up will be 50-50. You'll be surprised on how much you'll blend in in this area of Mexico riding a brand new Multistrada or 1200 GS! But I agree with you on the blending in, I don't want to attrack unnecessary attention ie unwelcomed attention.

Since you already have a car there, skip all of those and get a real dirt bike instead. Something like DR650, XR650L, or at the very most KLR650. There are some amazing places best ridden there on a dirt bike. Bunch of guys from around here trailer their dual sports down to the Mexican border and ride in from there for the annual MexTrek:

That looks like a great experience, but its not what Im after at this point. My goal is to spend my free time touring little towns, pyramids, the beach etc when my wife joins me in Mexico. Therefore the need for a two up Adv bike. So at this point the DRs KLRs and XRs and not in the mix. And I do understand that those can be used to tour but Im not comfortable two up on the highway with cars and buses doing a constant 80mph plus passing me by. i need more ooomph.

You still looking? Might be getting rid of one or the other in the next couple months to free up garage space.

Right! Why wouldn't I've thought of that?!? A quick 20 minute ride on each and I'll for sure be able to tell what fails on each or how much maintenance is needed or how reliable they are. Why didn't I think of it first ?!? Not say say that this "20 minute ride" will let me know how they handle in different situations like highway or dirt. Or what mods improve each ride. Why even bother with a forum, I should just go to the dealership and test ride and ask them, the dealer bc we all know how honest the dealer response is.

But it may make you dislike one of them in 20 mins. Like they say in sports, you cannot win in the first couple of minutes but you can lose it in that.

    I love the thing!

Tiger has been torn down for months. Need to find motivation to work on it. May be selling the strom to make space for a roadster.
