Info here say that the #3 Yamaha XT660R of Bertus cannot be repaired and he now uses Nick Bridger's #22 bike, who crashed early in the rally. Excellent sportsmanship, just try everything to bring everybody to the finishline.

Safely through the no-man's land and across the border into Mauritania, Jenny rings in as they prepare to tackle the monster dune stages ahead. The Desert Rose riders are doing well, and as often goes for support crews during rallies, they've adopted some new hangers-on.

Jenny's loving the Tenere and is finding it an excellent companion in the desert. :ricky

"Monster dunes + Tenere...:evil...keep it upright and moving forward Jenny! You don't want to be lifting and digging the Tenere out several times during a stage...it will be exhausting.

Some wise advice once passed on to me..."the answer to almost everything in the dunes is more throttle!"

    GO! :clap

Incredible. If you've ever wondered what the Heroes Legend was really like, or thought that it might be a "tourist trip" along the old Dakar route, listen in and think again. :ricky

"Mr. Yamaha" dropped in after Rallye Maroc and checked out the new generation Tenere. Wonder if we'll see some of the big boys at the Heroes next year...?

Hope to hear from you at the Pink Lake tomorrow, Jenny!. :clap

A coffee-deprived JennyMo rings in from the Madrid airport at oh-dark-thirty with her post-event wrap up. Splendid stuff, Jenny. Thanks for letting us ride "Inside the Helmet" on this year's Heroes. :ricky

:lol3 :lol3 :lol3 That is just golden! :clap :clap :clap

    Either our lady hero has an extremely dry sense of humor (ironic)... or she is in the front running for the;
2009 "oops!... got my own boot, stuck in my mouth award"... :shog :rofl

Great to hear she had such a good showing and enjoyed herself on the rally, which from the sound of her account was a tough and challenging event, that had many of the qualities of the previous "african dakars" of years past.

    Well done! :clap

Hee hee - don't worry, I think Stteve was alluding to the fact that yes, I was being ironic...

Here is Stephane meeting his hero (Piglet) after the final stage and a huge lunch at Lac Rose...

...although Stephane was only with the event for the final three days in Mauritania and Senegal (due to his commitments to BMW in the Rally Du Maroc the week before, which he won with a comfortable margin by the way), he took time out to chat with anyone/everyone who wanted a moment of his time, and having observed the new Tenere in action on the fast sandy stages, was particularly keen to advise me on how to set the bike up for better traction... I must say, I thought it was good already so if his recommendations work, I reckon a similarly prepped Tenere could be a real giant slayer in the right hands... everyone on the rally was impressed with the way the bike handled the event and of course my occasional ham-fistedness with it...

All bullshit aside, I seriously reckon that for the amateur level rally rider, especially in a big distance event like this, a similarly prepped Tenere is exactly the sort of bike to consider... it is ultra reliable, very crash proof, comfortable on liaison, and very forgiving and stable on harsh terrain...

Don't get me wrong, I exhausted myself picking the bugger up in the soft Mauritanian sand - but then anyone would picking up a similar sized rally bike (660RR or 690RR for example, even a fully kitted Mecasystem 530 weights in around 180Kg), but keep the bike moving and it is a very nimble machine compared to those factory bikes...

If you bought a year old low milage bike and prepped it up the way I have (less the paint and fancy seat perhaps), you could build one for less than half the price of a new 690RR...

Or put it another way, you could build the bike and enter next year's Heroes-Legend for the price of a 690RR...

Now doesn't that make an awful lot of sense?

    xxx

ps. I'll be taking orders shortly... x
