Hey all. I'm looking for a way to wire in a high-beam signal (+12V when high beam is on, off otherwise) to my Skene light controller on my 1290 SAR. Since it's CANbus controlled, it's not as simple as tapping into a wire on the back of the headlight. The "Hi beam" wire is at +12V with the high beam off, and pulls to ground (through the handlebar switch) with it on.

I've pored over the wiring diagrams in the service manual, and don't see any obvious signal sources. Has anyone here been able to locate one, or come up with another way to get a +12V hi-beam source?

I'm no electrician but can you tap into the negative headlamp wire? when the high beam is on, does this effectively close the circuit and provide power to the negative lead?

1190R here and the only way is a three way switch due to CANBUS.

Headlight has nothing to do with CANBUS.

No? Then why does the headlight have CANBUS signal going to it?

CANBUS monitors the state of the lights, and throws an error if it detects incorrect resistance. If that wasn't the case, I'd just use a relay to covert the pull-down signal on the high-beam wire to a pull-up and pass that to the Skene controller. Confirmed by another inmate that this throws an error (on the 1290 SAT at least).

I did it on the 1190 R with no issues too, but the 1290 SAR is different. I’m watching this thread as I too am interested in a solution.

    Cheers

Bingo! Thank you! That’s exactly what I need. Inputs are switched 12v and ground (right behind the headlight) and the CAN HI and LO (easy to tap into on the headlight connector), and it outputs +12v with the high beam on.

Looking for the cheapest retailer that will ship to the US. I’ll post up here when I’ve found that, and hopefully share my results in a few weeks.
