Hi Sieg, I think that route or track is a kind of shorthand. Each waypoint is the road you are supposed to be on. It's just a way for the locals to kind of know where they are supposed to be. I went to this ride last year and planned on staying longer than the event so I wrote out a detailed track of this file attempting to follow the roads they intended. I plan on being there again this year and will bring this improved version and some others. I have a Garmin Montana which will "talk" to some other Garmins and will also have a laptop. By the way if you are coming early or staying late maybe we can hookup. No guarantees I can keep up though. One track I did solo, which I think went west had a rutted out section and a steep uphill which was fun. One of those roads with the danger unimproved signs. Hope to see you there. Jerry

Yeah :nod kind of what I figured on the track but no one in the know would explain. And then some one said it works fine, again no explanation. Hope to make it there, IF we're not working at the club we'll be there. Stop at the club on the way past if you want. As always if we go, we'll be there early and stay late, as I always say "the weekend starts on Wed. and ends on Tue".

Sorry, had not come back to my post for awhile,
but I use this online converter site and that's where it works fine:
this is the Dogpatch route as seen after conversion.
You can zoom in and see the details too.

Cool thanks! :clap That's better, wonder why I couldn't do that, guess I when after it wrong. :hmmmmm

Are the dead end spurs just interesting side trips, anything neat on them on just a good fun old road to ride?

I created that route. There should not be any "dead end spurs" on it.

would it help if I put a lot more waypoints or stops on the route so it forces the GPS to follow that path?

I don't know how you generated that map from that website because I'll be darned if I can find a combination of options that produces anything close to the detail of the map you linked. Are you using the GPX from this post?:

I think Google map does not connect parts because there's not updated data.
It's difficult to keep up with temporary closures of FS roads and trail. Or it may be some limitation of the app.

Sorry for the misinformation. If all else fails the track could be recorded at the event, then cleaned up for further use. That would also be giving the latest info on road closures. I never was smart enough to use routes. The ride was outstanding last year and will no doubt be fun this year too. Thanks

The more points the better! People can always filter them out, but you can't un-filter them in.
    DTCFAN's track shows dead ends.

From my experience Google does not care if a road exists or not, but it sure looks that way. ?? I generally use MapSourse or BaseCamp. The only time I use Google is when I share tracks with the Forest Service for events, they aren't allowed to use Garmin's or any program that their government techs don't approve. The KML files show up exactly like the GPX or GDB when I convert it for them. ?? And they often do not go down roads, it even shows a proposed trail drawn in that is not there, in the real world.

    Me either!

Looking back through the posts, it was your file that I converted; the one you posted as a 'track'.
    Thank you, too.
And sorry to confuse anyone, but the end result is that we have a good route to ride in the area.
I will be riding it one week prior to the ADV group meet, probably by Fri 4/14
I'll be sure to post anything of interest/pertinence related to this route.

I can't get the same results with that level of detail using any of the options either.

Hey all. I'm late to this party but I'll be riding down with mo_rider this year. I've always wanted to make it down to AR to ride so this is giving me a good excuse. Can't wait to meet you all!
