I m back with another Himalayan ride.
My last ride was from 18th-21st dec 2006 - http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192961

This time we were 5 riders, riding around the state of Himachal Pradesh. Little did we know that even in winters, we would be able to ride deep into the Himalayas on roads as high as 10,000feet! Global warming is showing its signs for sure!

Are you crazy? Ice and snow on the road, street tires, no guard rail and a small cliff to fall off of. You guys are much more brave than I am. :thumb

This ride was from 24-29th Jan 2007 (the previous one being from 18-21st Dec 2006)

Yeah, the roads is scary to ride on, specially when going downhill, but the Michelin m45 tyres rock!

FYI: most of the Himalayan region is a fair bit closer to the equator than North America and all of Europe. Until you're at 15,000' (as in, anywhere on the tibetan plateau) or higher, it's actually much milder than you are thinking. You can pretty much ride all year long at lower elevations in Northern India and Pakistan. And as Bunny points out, seems a warming trend is in effect this year.

    :D

Some good scenes there Bunny - is that a damn or hydro plant in the 5th pic?

    jwmudd : Thanks pal!

akduc : yeah, we do like exploring unknown non-existing roads. although a lil scary, but cell phone network is always there in case of emergency

    moosekiller : thanks pal!

doctorit : thats a dam and some more kms further, was a hydro electric plant.
this winter, snow has eluded us all. its usually impossible for us to ride across to narkanda (9000feet) from Shimla (7200) as the road passes thru kufri and theog (both 8000 feet and in sun-shadow area).. but this time we even rode till Kalpa, around 8 hours from shimla, at around 10500 feet high

Nocturnal Bird, packmule, lobby : thanks all :)

My next ride is scheduled for around feb end. i just cant seem to get enuf of the Himalayas. Plus the fact that riding in india is quite cheap too :)
