after an amazing day of jamming through the Eastern Oregon countryside, 26 > 7 > 86 > 71 > 95, getting pulled over by Oregon LEO, enduring +107゚heat (pretty much everyday this trip), soaking our feet in the Snake, eating wild apples roadside ..... we settled down just outside of Cambridge ID at Mundo Hot Springs ....this is our double wide palace for the night.....enjoy!!

After much deliberation and searching we finally came to a decision what to do for the next couple of days.

There's a cold front, winter warning watch moving down from Canada carrying with it 50-60 mile an hour winds along with sub freezing temperatures, snow and freezing rain, not your ideal motorcycling weather

Thinking we could get on the motorcycles and smash out 400 miles to get over to Salmon ID on the other side of the mountains/state or into the Big Hole Valley, Jackson MT, not sure what the purpose would be other than to push us closer to yellowstone before the storm came thru.

Saturday eve we did not know if we could stay in the Big House Double Wide here at Mundo HS another night. so went to bed Saturday not knowing the future of Sunday, Monday or Tuesday winter travel, and/or how that played into the upcoming storm

Calling around, internet searches revealed all cabins, motels, lodging were sold out along our path for Labor Day it's a perfect storm a Winter storm over Labor Day weekend, do we play it safe and stay put (if we could stay, if available) or grind it out for 400 miles, with no margin for error to get to a place where we knew we had a cabin reserved (I found one place in the Big Hole Valley, The Bunkhouse Hotel) decisions decisions, sleep on it

About 10am Sunday morning we got the word that our Big House Double Wide here at Mundo Hot Springs was available for the next 2 days!!! YES!!! given that, we decided to stay put i mean we do have a hot springs pool 10 paces off the Big House DW and because we're in the big house from 7 to 11:00 at night they kick everybody out and it's ours exclusively, its good to be the Queen

stay we did, it's a good thing because that winter storm is bearing straight down the other side of te state on Salmon and the Big Hole Valley so holding up staying in nice 80゚weather with a hot springs (and massages) out our front door for the next two days is, well, "bitchin"

today was a beautiful cool autumn day along the Bitterroot and Salmon rivers. +300 miles of the most epic twisties to date.. hard to say which was a better session....the east side 13 > 12 > Misdoula or the west side of idaho...as they are as different as they are magnificent.

finished the day with an amazing meal at The Pioneer.

tomorrow we noodle around sun valley, maybe grab a soak out at Frenchmans while Brian fixes his flat, then off to West Yellowstone.....It was good day on the moto.

today we awoke early soaked in the hotel hot tub and set out for yellowstone for a few days of camping.

before leaving I wanted to stop by and visit the "last good deal in ketchum/sun valley" .... THE 80s plywood, warm springs coke/party house, complete with indoor hot tub, which i was partner in remodeled and lived in back in 2004 - 2007.....however, as life works its own designs, I had to "get out of sun valley" before she was finished....I took her to about 90% completion....and she is fucking beautiful! vision of perfection. she sits on the warm springs creek, paces away from the hot springs, surrounded by multimillion dollar "McCabins" a magical modest home 5mins walk from the Warm Springs ski lodge at the bottom of The Hill....the French Farmhouse on Irene St, The House That Chaos Built... everyone in ketchum/sun valley knows it....from the cops to the architects and designers....in a sea of billionaire waste, she is still the best house around...in my helmet i smiled and cried with joy as I snapped the pix then moto'd away.....its first time I've seen her in 15 years.....all the memories good, bad, indifferent came washing over me like the spring floods...shes everything and more of what I dreamed she would be. I hope the owners enjoy and care for her as i would have.

    back to the present....and yellowstone!!!

thge three of us jammed across the idaho high desert like demons on two wheels....stopping at craters of the moon lava fields for a pee break....we continued on across high desert plains, flat as the earth, on roads without paint, that are straight as the eye could see down them....high speed hypnosis sets in.....the mind wanders....then....WHACK!! the road turns to gravel....without notice without sign....its an "awakening".....we gently throttle down to a speed that better suits our dirt riding skills....after a few miles the speed increases a bit....a few miles more it ramps up a bit more.....10miles into this we are jamming across this unmarked dirt road at highway speed....comfortable as the machines float under us....blasting across the idaho desert, into the lower hills of pine, aspen and cedar, kicking up a rooster tail dust cloud that can be for miles.....this is fucking fun.

after 313 miles of flat, desolate, idaho high desert plains we roll to a stop at the intersection of the dirt road, Yale-Klingore and the 20....Brian rolls next to me

    "I've got a flat (again)"

on our way into sun valley he flatted....$30 and 90secs with the gas station guy in SV he was on the road.....but this was different....he was out of tread...he corded his tire on the 20 mile gravel road and the cords were causing this flat. we pulled out my tire plug kit, but due to it being from the steel cords coming thru, no fix....he needs a new tire....and its 530pm.

deirdre roll on to yellowstone to secure a campsite before dark....thats thd plan anyway....

we roll up to the west yellowstone entrance.....no line going in....but traffic jsm coming out....this is good right??!!! not so quickly...

talking to the ranger she says

"all our campgrounds filled up at 2pm today sorry"

    WTF?!?!

it's after labor day, on a Thursday, before a weekend!!! how the hell??!! turns out this is this busiest season on record, with half the campground closed due to covid....who the hell managed this cluster FUCK into exsitance?!

we frantically grab one of the ladt rooms in West yellowstone while Brian is back in Rexburg camping behind a stack of skidoo crates awaiting the moto shop to open tomorrow morning.....while we bring in the first frost of fall this morning.....

will we get into yellowstone or not?

    ....more will be revealed today.....

queuing up at the west entrance yellowstone at 8am we entered the park after a 30min traffic jam....this set the pace for the whole day, in the park.

this place is just overrun with people, insane.

endless ques. traffic jams, gobs of the sweating, pulsating hordes....huffing, puffing breathing hard at a lowely 5000 ft .... everyones phone on a stick, selfie mode....get us the fuck out of here....it really takes away from the beauty.....its there....if you can see it behind the RVs, mobile homes, big hair, selfie sticks,, buses hauling Rav4s, and all....those.....fucking people......yuck.

    so......we smashed Yellowstone.

regardless to say we did not even look for a campsite in the park....who the fuck would want to hold up in that mess?....instead we sped tour our way to the south entrance clawing thru traffic the whole day.....not much good to say about today's leg.....snapped a few choice "Wild Animal/Jurassic Park" style pictures as we were shoulder to shoulder on the wobbling, jiggling, throbbing, leaky humanity bus.

once out of the park we rolled into jackson hole (another shit show) to get white gas for the stove.....on to find a campsite down valley yall, away from the madness.

once we got clear of the washed and sanitized masses, it was a good day on the moto.

we found a sweet little roadside campsite on the Snake River just outside of way-too-conjested Jackson Hole

what little road noise there was, was drowned out by the mighty Snake River below us. a nice meal of freeze dried backpackers food and called it a night at about 7:30

it was a cold night but the ground was flat and the bag was warm. I woke to the sounds of bugling elk and steam rising on the Snake as the warm sun filtered thru the trees onto its cold surface, a morning fire for the toes.

we jammed down to a small town called Alpine where i detailed out deirdres leaking rear final drive at Yankee Doogles Cafe while #ItalianMistressNo1 wifi'd. were on the road.

desolate twisties ahead. after stopping for ice cream at cedar lake fishing area (which was in the middle of nowhere idaho) we were down the road, and over the comms I hear #ItalianMistressNo1 say

"dammit. I forgot to put in my ear plugs"

I pull over on the narrow soft shoulder, turns out its got a steep angle to it as well. slowly i rolled to a stop, then the soft stuff caught me. deirdre could hear thru the comms

    "oh...fuck...Oh Fuck....OH FUCK!!"

standing still i almost kept it upright, almost. i jumped clear, tuck and rolled, just like the movies. slo-mo. I'm once again Flying Thru The Idaho Desert. (i did this once before, similar thing, some 15 years ago in idaho...but i was going +70, highsided, drunk)

the yardsale you see is me unloading the machine to get her back up. a couple nice folk stopped, then, out of nowhere idaho state police show up!! have not seen a cop in days, and within minutes she rolls up. super nice, she said they bury people riding motos all the time on this deserted county road. she was happy that i was laughing at it all.

so that's the story with the "upset" (as the itslians call it in the moto guzzi owners manual)

we finshed the day with pizza and shared a candy bar....in bed.

    tomorrow hot springs!

This morning we were headed for Baker Hot Springs. the route looked really awesome, nevada high desert twisties, but 2 hours into it we came across an army base and they wouldn't let us cross! access to three routes were blocked by the gov! no maps, no signs indicated this, and it cost us 3 hours of travel time....we had to stay the night in a smokey fucking casino in Wendover ... but we got to blast across the salt flats!!! sometimes you just gotta roll with it.
