Will leave shortly this morning for a 3 week trip. Oregon to Illinois, then to Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and back. Mainly it's a chance to see my mom and 6 siblings (there's one more in Australia, but I don't think I can swing that this trip). And it's time to see what the CB1100 can do on the road...and to see what I can still do on the road.

My main concern with the CB1100 when I bought it in January was that I was somewhat too tall for it. But a seat pad, engine guard with cheapo hiway pegs up front gives me some more room. The luggage is just enough. Time to head out...

Made it to Coure d'Alene, ID. Took a bit longer than I thought but this is where I wanted to get to for today. It's a new bike and I wasn't sure how my body was going to like being on the cb for longish distances. I've done a couple of 700 mile days on a klr, more of necessity than desire, so 400 miles seemed safe for a first day. Bridge and dam at The Dalles to cross the creek into Washington

Seemed like the first 75 miles took forever...had me thinking "do I really want to do this?" I mean, why not just fly out to see mom and the sibs? 2200 miles and I'm already counting the miles, doing the math, can I get there in 5 days, will I need six? Stop!

Little by little I was catching a familiar rhythm, miles began to sift by, the afternoon sun was bearing down, but at speed it was not uncomfortable. image.jpeg Spokane was only an hour away and by 5 I was rolling into town. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a Honda dealership and got in just before they closed the doors to get a quart of oil just in case. Denny's is king when you're hungry, and another 30 miles post dinner was enough. An old friend awaits me tomorrow in Billings.
